Rosemount Estate Farr 40 Regatta
Palm Beach

It was near perfect sailing conditions for the start of the Rosemount Estate Farr 40 Regatta today. Thirteen boats lined up for the three-day series, hosted by the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club and sailed on the Palm Beach Circle.

The Rosemount Estate Regatta is one of the most hotly contested series on the Farr 40 OD Calender. The 'trophy' is the owner's weight in the sponsor's product, the esteemed Rosemount Estate wines.

Last year's winner was Marcus Blackmore, owner driver of Emotional Hooligan who collected 95kg, his designated weight, in Rosemount wines. After the first three races on Day 1 of the series, Emotional Hooligan is currently leading on scratch.

"We led at every mark until the final run home in Race 1 and 3," said Blackmore who took a third, first and second place, "but what was notable about today was the closeness of the racing. In Race 2 four boats crossed the line in under 20 seconds," he said.

RPAYC yachting Administrator, Denis Thompson said, "Conditions were beautiful with East to Nor'East breezes on a smooth blue sea. It started a bit light with 8-10knot winds for the first race and finished with winds up to 15knots.

"The racing was very, very close with the leads changing several times throughout all races."

The Australian Class President of the Farr 40 OD Association, Richard Perini (Corinthian Doors) is in second place on scratch with Neville Crichton (Team Shockwave) in third place.

On handicap, Ron Jones, well-known as the skipper of the Sydney AC 40 Sledgehammer is leading. Making his second foray into the Farr 40 class, he has chartered Southern Star. The boat is owned by Farr 40 OD World Champion John Calvert-Jones.
