The 505s are all measured, the last adjustments are being made, competitors are speculating about today's wind as they ready themselves for the start of racing.
103 two-person teams from seven countries will battle for the LightSurf 2004 International 505 World Championship, starting tomorrow at 13:00 (the scheduled start of race 1). Nine races are scheduled over five days (six with the lay day). The final race will be 20 August.

The North American Championship/pre-worlds wrapped up on Thursday the 12th. Morgan LARSON and Trevor BAYLIS, local 505 and skiff sailors, won the event, with Mike MARTIN and Jeff NELSON of Long Beach second, Howard HAMLIN and Peter ALARIE (Long Beach/Bristol RI) third, Bruce EDWARDS and Dave SHELTON (Santa Cruz) fourth. There are a number of top teams racing the worlds that were not racing the NAs/pre-worlds.
