Laser II European Championship 2004
Skerries Sailing Club

Skerries was once again consumed by fog at the start of the second days' racing at the 2004 Laser II European Championship. Once the fog lifted, PRO Paul SMITH sent the fleet out in drifting conditions, anxious that breeze may fill in.
He was right, and Race Four was started in light conditions one mile north of Skerries harbour.

Event leaders Chris FORRISTAL and Paddy BLACKLEY were caught out as the starting signal fired when they were checking out the beat. The race was won by Clodagh O'SULLIVAN and Ian MCGONIGAL, who pulled out a huge lead throughout the race with some very smart racing. Forristal and Blackley resumed normal form to win Race Five, followed by O'Sullivan and McGonigal.

The top three places are currently filled by three Irish boats, Robert JANSON and Aletta from the Netherlands had a bad day of light weather racing, and Conor CLANCY and Ned O'HAGAN have retained their third place with two fifth places recorded yesterday. Defending European Champions Nigel SKUDDER and Keith HILLS remain in the top five, but seem to be finding the going tough.

Race Six was postponed and rescheduled for Thursday and will decide the Irish National Championship.
