Singapore

In less than three months time, on 6 July 2005, the 117th IOC Session will begin in Singapore. The main decision to be taken by the 117 IOC members will be for the election of the host city for the Games of the XXX Olympiad in 2012.
The members will also review the programme of Olympic sports. Furthermore, they will receive a full report on the progress made by the Organizing Committees for the Games in Turin in 2006, Beijing in 2008 and Vancouver in 2010, as well as on the work achieved by the IOC commissions and administration.

It is the first time that the city of Singapore has hosted an IOC Session. The Session will be opened on 5 July 2005 at 1900 hours local time (1100 GMT) in the Esplanade Theatre in Singapore. The session of 6 July will begin with the presentations by the candidate cities, at the following times:

· 0900 Paris
· 1030 New York
· 1200 Moscow
· 1430 London
· 1600 Madrid

At 1715 the IOC Evaluation Commission Chairwoman, Nawal EL MOUTAWAKEL, will present her report, which will be followed by the IOC members' vote. The result will be announced by IOC President Jacques Rogge at 1930 (1130 GMT).

Like the host city for the 2008 Olympic Games, Beijing, London, Paris and Madrid would be forced to hold the sailing events in an area outside the host city. In Beijing this is Qingdao and in London it would be Weymouth, in Paris, La Rochelle whilst in Madrid it would be Palma de Mallorca. Both New York and Moscow have the capacity to hold sailing events within or very close to the host city.

The next important stage in the selection of the host city for the 2012 Games will be the publication of the Evaluation Commission's report on 6 June 2005. The Evaluation Commission includes a couple of names from the sailing world: former ISAF President, Paul HENDERSON (CAN) and former vice-president Ng Ser MIANG (SIN). The Evaluation Commission's report will be made public and will be available on the IOC's website.
