Paul VAYDA, Chair of the Regatta said, 'The support and encouragement from The City of Hamilton and The Hamilton Port Authority has been instrumental in allowing RHYC to put on an event that will showcase Hamilton's waterfront and the first-class facilities available for national and international sailing events.'
Since its founding in 1888, RHYC has promoted local and international yacht racing. The unique climatic, geographic and hydrographic qualities provided by Hamilton Harbour give the club the longest sailing season in central Canada.
RHYC is the home of Canada's first Olympic sailor, Norm ROBERTSON who earned the right to represent Canada at the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris. In 1930 RHYC hosted the sailing events for the British Empire Games. In the years since, RHYC is proud to have helped many Olympians including Larry SCOTT in 1972 and Marty ESSIG who represented Canada at the Sydney Olympics in 2000.
