The 2006 regatta is set to be a spectacular sailing event. The organizers plan to attract 1,500 sailors and coaches from 80 nations. Ten World Championship titles are up for grabs, and more than 100,000 visitors are expected.
The equipment used is chosen by ISAF as representing the most popular types worldwide and is supplied by the manufacturers for the duration of the event, except for the 49er. 49er sailors will be supplied with sails, but must bring their own boat. The equipment is rotated amongst the competitors between each group of races to ensure unprecedented fairness.
Each Member National Authority (MNA) will be given two entries. One entry is guaranteed, the other entry is at the discretion of the Organizing Committee, and will be based on quotas and participation.
