Skandia Geelong Week
Geelong, Australia

With national championships, prestigious trophies and pride at stake, the on water competition during Skandia Geelong Week can be fierce. However there is one event on the sailing program where everyone gets the opportunity to dress up and celebrate.
The Bay FM Sail Past is party time on Corio Bay. 'This is the event where we encourage every boat owner to join in and become part of the on water program. It's an opportunity for the boating community to choose a figurehead, dress up their respective boats and parade along the waterfront in front of a large crowd', Event Chairman Graeme Ritchie said.

In past years boat owners have displayed ingenuity and flair with surprising results. 'The themes can be fairly comical. We have seen boats parading as navy destroyers complete with cannons, the SS Minnow and a few odd looking pirate ships. Bikini clad figureheads are also popular amongst boat owners and spectators', Ritchie added.

This year the sail past will be lead by the visiting tall ship - Enterprize. Prizes are awarded to the best dressed boat and the best figurehead. There are no entry fees. The sail past is programmed for 1830 on Monday 24 January.
