'The hospitality and yachting industries have much in common', explained Fiona, 'Some see them as a career option whilst for others they are very much a stop gap. Whatever the motivation of the individuals, the key issue is that they are properly trained to deliver services to a high and consistent standard.'

Fiona also had responsibility for maintaining the Registered Training Organisation status of Academie Accor. 'My priority will be to work with stakeholders to rebuild a series of Schemes that serve the needs of the market. This will mean a great deal of consultation with those involved, particularly the State Yachting Associations where a great deal of expertise resides. National recognition of courses under an RTO is a positive but secondary consideration in the short term.'

A keen sailor, Fiona has completed in Hamilton Island Race Week, the Sailing South Regatta and the CYCA Blue Water Pointscore as well as sailing several thousand nautical miles cruising and on delivery trips. 'I consider myself close enough to the industry to understand it but removed enough to remain objective,' she says.

Speaking on behalf of the Board of Yachting Australia, Phil JONES, CEO said, 'We have not had a dedicated Training Manager for over two years. We are delighted Fiona has accepted the position. She has the ideal mix of experience and skills. We are very confident Fiona will do an excellent job and we are looking forward to the revitalisation of the National Training Schemes under her leadership.'

Fiona will take up her new role at Yachting Australia on 31 January.
