Opening Ceremony Today

Today sees the opening ceremony of the tenth anniversary of the first Italian ISAF Grade 1 Match Racing Event, the Trofeo Roberto Trombini in Ravenna organised by Circolo Velico Ravennate and International Marinara Yacht Club.

7.00 local time this evening will see 12 of the world's best match racers parade in open top cars through the regatta village, followed by a spectacular fireworks display, before racing starts in earnest tomorrow

Skippers such as James SPITHILL (AUS), currently second on the ISAF World Match Race rankings, Jes GRAM-HANSEN (DEN), Bjorn HANSEN (SWE) and the up and coming Paul CAMPBELL-JAMES (GBR), will do battle between 1 and 4 of July in a round-robin, quarter-final, semi-final and final, before the latest Grade 1 Champion is crowned.

Lithuania's Juozas Bernotas came out on top in the Men's RS:X whilst Russia's Stefania Elfutina was triumphant in the Women's RS:X. Both sailors claim the first Abu Dhabi ISAF Sailing World Cup Final spots whilst Jock Calvert (AUS) and Joanna Sterling (AUS) picked up the Oceanic spots for the Emirati finale.

A tight group of five young Papua New Guinean (PNG) Laser sailors are stepping up their 2015 Pacific Games competition program using this week's ISAF Sailing World Cup Melbourne. PNG is one of 33 countries represented at the important Oceanic event, the largest Olympic sailing regatta in the southern hemisphere.
