On Saturday, the historic One Ton Cup drew to a close with a series of protests that delayed announcement of the final winner.
Although with only 6 boats competing, the standard of competition at the event was incredibly high with the distinguished list of skippers including offshore sailor Dawn Riley (USA) helming K-Challenge One, and Paul Cayard, steering ISAF Vice President George Andreadis' Atalanti X. These boats eventually took the top two places after some very close racing that saw it's fair share of protests.
Racing didn't get underway until the second scheduled day of the regatta due to strong winds in St Tropez on day one. Three races were held on day two in shifty conditions which saw consistency to be the key. Cavale Bleue, skippered by Thierry Peponnet scored three seconds to put him at the top of the leaderboard at the end of the day, with Riley second and Glyn Williams' Wolf in third.
Going into the final day, Cavale Bleue still held the lead, having not won a single race but remaining consistant but with protests between four of the 6 boats pending, and results going up and down race by race, everything was still to play for. Cavale Blueu was eventually disqualified from Race Six and Atalanti X from Race Six to hand the advantage to K-Challenge I going into the last day.
Despite winning the final two races, his disqualification in Race six, and a fifth in race eight, meant that Cayard could only finish second, in an event which he has previously won.
