Mistral World Championship 2005
Mondello, Sicily, Italy

The Albaria Windsurfing Club hosted a press conference yesterday to present the 2005 Mistral World Championship which will be held in Mondello, Sicily from 13 to 22 May.

The Mistral World Championship returns to Sicily after 13 years and in the presence of many local authorities, Vincenzo POTTINO, President of the Albaria and federal councilman of the Federvela, illustrated the programme of the event that will bring to Mondello more than one hundred of the best athletes representing more than thirty nations and five continents.

'The World Championship of the Mistral class returns in Mondello after thirteen years' - Pottino has explained - 'In 1992 it has marked the beginning of the olympic adventure of Mistral while today it celebrates in some way the goodbye to the Olympic stage for this class that remains however very important for the windsurf movement. Today Mondello wants to be again as in the past years a sort of special container able to fuse entirely many different elements as sport, culture and music'.

The entry list is an impressive one for both the men's and the women's fleets including a plethora of Olympic medallists and past world champions.

The ISAF Grade 1 Cento Cup Regatta was also presented in Mondello. Organized by Albaria Windsurfing Club and Circolo Vela Gargnano, this regatta will take place from 17 to 21 May and will welcome some of the best match racers in the world.

'It's the first time that the this regatta will be organized far from the Garda lake where it was born sixteen years ago' - Paolo VIGANI, , in representation of the Circolo Vela Gargnano and Team +39, explained - 'Since we came the first time in Mondello, we recognized that this is the first place to be able to host our competition'.
