Snipe Junior World Championships

After day 1 was blown out, day 2 brought NE breezes from 6-12 knots in choppy seas left over from the cold front the day before at Mentor Harbor Yachting Club, Mentor, Ohio.

Race one found Spaniards Raul de Valenzuela/Jose la Torre Martinez and Americans Bryan Lake/Graham Biehl trading the top position during the race with Lake/Biehl pulling away for the last beat to win the race.

Race 2 was lighter with the prevalent chop. 2 boats were called over early but returned to start properly. Argentines Emanuel Botello/Mariano Zarza led the majority of the race but fellow countrymen Adolfo Benavidez/Federico Pierson passed them on the final beat to win the race. Americans Dave Hochart/Piet VanOs pulled to 3rd the last race with Americans Lee Sackett/Drew Hamilton in 4th.

The third race had oscillating shifts, which challenged all the sailors. Brazilians Marcos Mascarenhas/Pedro Tinoco do Amarag started at the boat and never looked back. With the wind dropping, they increased their lead until the finish. Spaniards Valenzuela/Martinez held on to second the entire race but Americans Lake/Biehl came from 7th to finish 3rd.

Lithuania's Juozas Bernotas came out on top in the Men's RS:X whilst Russia's Stefania Elfutina was triumphant in the Women's RS:X. Both sailors claim the first Abu Dhabi ISAF Sailing World Cup Final spots whilst Jock Calvert (AUS) and Joanna Sterling (AUS) picked up the Oceanic spots for the Emirati finale.

A tight group of five young Papua New Guinean (PNG) Laser sailors are stepping up their 2015 Pacific Games competition program using this week's ISAF Sailing World Cup Melbourne. PNG is one of 33 countries represented at the important Oceanic event, the largest Olympic sailing regatta in the southern hemisphere.
