Laser 2 World Championship
Pwllheli, North Wales

Wednesday at the Laser2 World Championships in Pwllheli, Wales, dawned much the same as Tuesday, with idyllic sunshine and less than idyllic very light wind conditions.

After a 5 hour delay the dinghy park rapidly emptied into the bay where a steady South Westerly 3-4 knots awaited. After the morning's frustrations the fleet were too eager to get away and a general recall inevitably followed as the majority of the 90 boats pushed the line too far.

The second start saw the wind favouring the committee boat end and the fleet behaved long enough to clear the line. Championship contenders, Andy Palmer-Felgate and Lee Sydenham spent the first few moments of the race doing turns while the rest of the fleet surged for the windward mark. The favoured right side saw the Irish boat of Connor Clancy and Nolam Markham lead round the windward mark, a position they would hold for the remainder of the race and finish some 50yards ahead of the chasers. British couple, Mandy and John Chapman finished a convincing second, with a good gap to third place Simon Lomas-Clarke and Sarah Morris who lead a procession of boats with Matt McCarthy and Jo Dillon a very close fourth and Chris Foster and Tony Wright fifth, having come right up through the fleet.

A late evening finish left hopes for a full days racing on Thursday.
