The Ticket Portal registration stages will run until March 2015.
The Rio 2016 Ticket Programme has four stages. The first is registration, in which the spectator fills out some basic information and chooses the sports of preference. In March 2015 the second stage begins and is vitally important if you wish to participate in the random draws (1 and 2) for tickets for the Olympic Games. If you do not take part in the first draw in March 2015, the spectator will only have access to the ticket sales system in October 2015, when the online first come, first serve sales with no random draw stages begins. The sales at the ticket offices is the last stage.
The draws are conducted to ensure that the process is fair, transparent and reliable, and that all those registered have an equal chance of obtaining tickets.
All fans who wish to buy a ticket for the Rio 2016 Games should register for the random ticket draws, which will be held in two stages, beginning in March 2015. In the first stage, fans registered and who have ordered Rio 2016 tickets will compete in the draw on equal terms. In the second stage, only those fans who participated in stage one will be eligible to order tickets and those who have not been awarded any tickets so far will take priority in the random draw.
The random draw will be carried out using a digital tool developed by CTS Eventim which has already been used for other major events. The process will be audited by an independent company in compliance with our commitment to a fair, transparent and reliable sales policy.
Registrations for the first ticket draw will be open on March 2015. At this time, fans should return to the Ticket Portal to choose the day and session of the competitions for which they wish to buy tickets.
There are over 700 ticket options, including qualifiers and finals for the 42 Olympic events. On registering, you will need to enter other data as well as indicating payment and delivery details before submitting the order via the Portal.
Once registrations have closed, the ticket draw will be conducted based on the following rules:
• The first draw stage will take place in May 2015 for each sports session and following a sequence yet to be defined. For instance, all those who have registered to buy a ticket for the heats on the first day of the swimming competition will have an equal chance of obtaining tickets for this session. Similarly, those who have applied for tickets to watch the women’s volleyball semi-finals will also have the same chance of obtaining tickets, and so on.
• A draw will be made for each sports session and not for each account registered.
• When being awarded a given session, the fan will be buying as many tickets as requested when the order was placed. For example, those ordering four tickets for a session will not be able to change this to one, two or three tickets at the time of the draw.
When the first draw stage ends, fans will be notified by email to their registered email address of the amount to be debited to their credit cards, depending on what tickets they have been awarded during the draw.
Only those fans who submitted a ticket order during the first stage will be eligible for the second draw, whether they have been awarded the tickets ordered or not. To participate in the second draw, you will need to return to the Ticket Portal and submit a new order specifying the sessions and tickets for which you wish to compete.
You will be able to register for the second draw on July 2015.
The second draw stage will be based on the same rules as the first and will also be audited. Priority will be given to fans who were not awarded any tickets in the first draw.
Once the draws have been made, fans will be notified at their registered email address of the amount to be debited to their cards, according to the number of tickets they have been awarded.
