The ISAF Paralympic Development Program (PDP) helps ISAF Member National Authorities by assisting in the development of national disabled sail, training programs, including supporting the training of disabled sailors and their coaches through a number of dedicated performance clinics as well as helping to arrange classification opportunities for sailors that are not yet classified but wish to be in order to participate in competitive events. The PDP focusses on enabling the participating nations to grow sustainable training programs.
How does it Work?
The ISAF Paralympic Development Program (PDP) enables ISAF Member National Authorities (MNAs) to benefit from support in the following key areas:
Performance clinics:
All eligible ISAF MNAs are invited to apply annually for attendance at a number of 5 day performance clinics. Each MNA application is reviewed by ISAF and MNAs are assessed against pre-determined criteria that will identify their level of eligibility. Each MNA can apply to have a maximum of 2 sailors, 1 coach and a care giver (if applicable) attend the clinics. The numbers of persons that can be put forward by an MNA may vary from clinic to clinic.
MNAs successful in their application will have up to 50% of their travel expenses covered by the PDP subsidies as well as all accommodation / food costs during the clinics. All practical equipment (Boats and training resources) will also be provided for the participants. The supported classes of equipment for each clinic will vary and MNAs are informed which classes (2.4mR, Sonar, SKUD18) are available for each clinic.
ISAF Disabled Sailing World Championship attendance:
ISAF will provide all PDP nations access to dedicated charter boats in at least the 2.4class as well as supply dedicated coaches to work with all PDP nations attending the ISAF Disabled Sailing Worlds. Daily briefing and de-briefing sessions will be arranged by this coaching team and on-water support will be provided on all race areas where PDP sailors are taking part.
How can my MNA apply to benefit from the PDP?
Applications for nations to formally take part in the annual PDP activity can only be made directly through ISAF Member National Authorities (MNAs). Details of the dates / venues for performance clinics will be communicated directly to MNAs by ISAF.
