National work

As the organisation responsible for community sport across England we play an overarching role in sport at a national level. This includes:

• Funding national governing bodies of sport and national partner organisations to run programmes that will increase the number of people playing sport in their specific sport or field of expertise
• Recognising sports 
• Providing expertise to national organisations and helping them develop their governance
• Speaking to Parliamentarians, the media and commercial organisations to promote sport
• Co-ordinating the work of local bodies, such as county sport partnerships, to ensure a consistent approach to sport across the country
• Funding national charities and specialist organisations through our open funding streams
• Running our own national programmes
• Acting as a statutory consultee on all planning applications that affect playing fields to ensure protection of sports space
