The Royal Southern Yacht Club's deserved reputation for top-flight race organisation has spread far from The Solent, so it is no surprise that the Champagne Joseph Perrier July Regatta attracted racers from beyond the club's Hamble River base.
Commented Prue Nash 'We were the lowest rated boat in the class and were really chuffed to do so well. It was champagne sailing, literally in this case. A fantastic regatta and really well organised'.
The Royal Southern is also showing its mettle, along with its unrivalled facilities, in running national events alongside its core programme, this weekend also hosting the Open British 6 Metre Championship.

Royal Southern Match Cup Event Roundup
Royal Southern Match Cup Event Roundup
Ian Williams emerged as a worthy winner of the first ever World Match Racing Tour event to be held in the UK, the Royal Southern Match Cup 2015. But this ISAF Grade 2 event posed a real scare for Ian from the Club's own Academy member Mark Lees in the semi-finals.
Five-time World Match Racing Tour (WMRT) champion and the current world number one, Williams had kept a 100 per cent win record until he ran into Lees in the first of the knock-out series. Lees took the first race and an early lead in the best-of-five, before Williams hit back taking the next two. In a declining and shifty Solent breeze, and despite a coming together at the top mark, Lees kept the tie alive with a win to level the scores. Article is a round-up article of all 4 days

The Royal Southern Yacht Club was honoured today by the presence in Hamble of its Patron, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, for the Commissioning ceremony of the newly completed Prince Philip Yacht Haven.
Three years ago, His Royal Highness had graciously lent his name to this project to transform the Club's waterfront and having been shown the plans on his last visit, was viewing the completed development for the first time.
Accompanied by the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire, Mrs. Lindsay Fox, Prince Philip was welcomed to the Royal Southern Yacht Club by its Commodore, Mr. Christopher Mansfield, before meeting Flag Officers and Members of both the Royal Southern and its neighbour, the Royal Air Force Yacht Club, a partner in the waterfront project.
