The Medal Race format in Olympic sailing is designed to create drama and uncertainty, especially when the wind is blowing hard - which it did on the Spanish boat MAPFRE (Iker Martínez/ESP) won their second Volvo Ocean Race in-port race running on Saturday, but only with two metres to spare after a thrilling contest in the Portuguese sun.

British sailors are preparing to take on the world's best on home waters next week, as the ISAF Sailing World Cup series returns to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic venue of Weymouth and Portland (8-14 June).

The ISAF Sailing World Cup Notice of Race & Sailing Instruction (NoR/SI) has been amended to include a new starting sequence.

In a spectacular two-race light airs showdown local hero Yann Marilley, crewed by Nicolas Berthoud, Kaspar Schadegg, Philippe Durr and Alexandre Nicole aboard the 1981 Pelle Petterson designed FRA177 Junior, claimed the 2015 International Six Metre World Championship hosted by the Société Nautique de la Trinité-sur-mer.

When Ted Turner entered his yacht Tenacious in the famed Fastnet Race in 1979, he did not need to prove himself. Turner already had the following on his résumé: founder of a television network, owner of the Atlanta Hawks and Braves, and, most appropriate here, winner of the 1977 America's Cup.
