Promote Content Using collections

Collections is a new feature available on TweetDeck that allows you create your own timeline of Tweets you select. With collections, you have control over how Tweets are organized and delivered, which Tweets to feature (chosen either manually through TweetDeck or programmatically by API), even what to name the timeline. Tweets in collections can be grouped and organized around specific topics, interests, events and conversations, and are, of course, delivered in real time. Each collection is public and has its own page on twitter.com, making it easy to share, follow and embed.

Uses of collections

A news story breaks, an action-packed football game is won or a TV show becomes an overnight hit — making a collection is a way to curate the best Tweets of the moment. Although the tool was not rolled out until November, some of our most innovative users have already started to build collections.

The US Guardian (@GuardianUS) made a collection to consolidate and maintain its Q&A session about the organization’s NSA stories. Reporters responded to questions with the hashtag #MyNSAQuestion, and all those responses and some questions were inserted into the timeline.

When The Voice added an Instant Save live Twitter vote feature to its show, host @CarsonDaly curated a timeline out of its top Tweets.

The policy makers site PoliticoPro (@PoliticoPro) collected the top energy policy accounts into its Energy Insider Tweet Hub of collections. The hub has three timelines: energy reporters, influencers and lawmakers. This is one of the three:

@BleacherReport made a timeline of posts and images during an early-season college basketball matchup between Michigan State and Kentucky.

How to make a collection

There are two main ways to create a collection — hand curated through TweetDeck and programmed for developers using the API. For the manual way, log into TweetDeck and click to add a “collection” new column type. Drag the move icon on a Tweet to add it to your collection column. Remove Tweets by clicking the “X” icon. You can also add and remove Tweets from collection in the more actions menu of the Tweet.
