The story so far......

Big breeze yesterday for Day 2 in Weymouth and some long days on the water for a lot of classes. The day started really light but as the boats left the slip way the breeze built and we ended up with up to 30 knot gusts, needless to say it was some wet ‘n’ windy racing and all of the coaches who were out on the water were pretty drenched too, I had some guests in the RIB with me and it was a fairly unglamorous day for boating!

The moral of the team is high and we are definitely on track to take some medals later in the week. Lucy Macgregor, Annie Lush and Kate Macgregor are unbeaten so far in the regatta winning 7 out of 7 of their races. This morning in particular saw them take a win against Anna Tunnicliffe one of their biggest competitors. Pippa Wilson is also here this week Match Racing with crew Mary Rook and Ally Martin, she’s only been sailing in the boat for a few weeks but seems to be enjoying her latest challenge so watch this space to see what comes of that one.

The big breeze yesterday was a challenge for many of our sailors, Nic Asher and Elliot Willis had a DNF due to a broken mast and Sarah Ayton and Saskia Clark capsized in one of their races so understandably came ashore wet, cold and frustrated.

Nick Dempsey had a great day yesterday taking him into the lead in the RSX class, but with 6 hours on the water it was a hugely challenging day for him, our physio Flash spent some time with him last night making sure he was recovered for today. The lighter winds today will be just as challenging for the windsurfers as they need to pump the sail continuously to keep the speed up on the course.

Most of the classes are out on the water now, there seems to be a couple of postponements but nothing that is going to cause to much delay, yesterday we had a few issues out on the water with course changes etc but hopefully these race management issues have been resolved so we should be in full swing for the rest of the week.

Right I’m off to meet out Paralympic Steering Group this afternoon so update you soon.
