Murcia training

After a hectic summer training with Bryony for the Olympics and learning to kiteboard race, then windsurfing’s reinstatement into 2016, we had not planned any warm weather training before Christmas.
After several frozen weeks in Portland Harbour getting back on the board I was so keen to fly to Murcia on January 3rd. Bryony and I flew all our kit, somehow tricking the check in lady into allowing us +80kg each of sports kit instead of the 40kg limit. The vibe in Murcia was super cool, all the team living together, it felt a bit like youth squad.
Fortunately the first few days where light winds and we refreshed our pumping techniques and toughened our hands. That was followed by a few days of railing and planing upwind! Perfect!
Every day was warm and sunny, even ventured out in board shorts for a couple of sessions. The RS:X World Championships in Buzios, Brazil are in a month and we are racing at the Miami World Cup in a few weeks so we both got lots of gym sessions in with some nice flat road bike rides around Murcia Lake, lots of weights and physio sessions. Murcia sailing centre is amazing - a five minute walking to sailing, accommodation, dining, three gyms, paddle tennis, sea front running, sandy beach, athletics track, basketball, judo and boxing floors and workshops.
With Miami and the Worlds in the next couple of months, the RS:X sailors will not be joining the team at the next camp but we will definitely be back in the future!
