Freo Doctor
Written by Chris Draper | 14 November 2010
Hello all, well we have had a great period of training out here in in Perth. It's shallow and windy, which means for some great 49er sailing.
We have been doing racing in the morning wind (which is what we are likely to sail in a bit at the worlds in 2011) and also in the afternoon 'Fremantle doctor' for some good heavy weather boathandling.
The sea state is far from ideal for 49ers, but we are embracing it and have been getting in some good hours. Today we did the theatre style racing as well which was really good fun. We were racing with swimming lane buoys up both sides of the course meaning we had to race up and down the wind within the boundaries. It made for some tight, exciting racing that was a good test of our handling skills.
We have been learning some great stuff, both about the venue as well as our own goals. Our heavy weather sailing has been improving and it really looks like we have made some promising progress on the boatspeed front since the Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta.
We have got the boat ready for racing today, she is all packed away and polished up, we have a bit of paper work to do and other than that we are going to have a bit of rest before the event starts on Wednesday.
We will keep you all up to speed with how the event is going, thanks for al the support
Chris and Peter
