Day 2 49er Olympic class Sail for Gold regatta

Written by Chris Draper  | 07 June 2011

Hello all from a breezy and sunny Weymouth. So far we have had 6 races in quite a range of conditions. The first two races were sailed in a really tricky Northerly breeze, the second race some boat's even had to sail upwind to the downwind finish !

We got two 13th's ( unlucky for some, lucky for others ! ) which to be honest was not too bad given the conditions. The next race we went back out and sailed in the sea breeze, we had a really nice race finishing 2nd, we pushed the leader really hard to the end but couldn't quite get around him.

Today we had lovely conditions with 14-18knts and sun. We started with a 3rd and then had a slightly annoying 9th and then a 5th.We had really good starts today but didn't quite get the first decisions right in each of the races. The final race we caught back up to 2nd but then choose the wrong mark out of the two options which was a shame meaning three boats slipped through.

All in all we have had a pretty solid start to the regatta and done well not to pick up any big scores so far. We're really excited about the rest of the week, the forecast looks great, Bingo our boat is carrying us along at a great rate, we look forward to letting you know how it goes.
