You’ll usually find that yachts are fully equipped and self contained live aboard vessels, so it’s possible for you to spend several days aboard with your family or friends. If you’re very lucky you can escape to remote places or travel the globe seeing the world’s most exciting places from a yacht.

During an offshore passage you’ll be sure to make friends onboard, much like you’ll bond with your team mates whilst cruising or racing. Yachting provides a physical and mental challenge that will give you a real sense of accomplishment.

You can try yachting out by taking a taster day at one of the RYA Training Centres, sailing clubs and charter companies throughout the UK and abroad.

What you'll need

The RYA Training Centre that you choose will provide all the safety kit you require and will have wet weather clothing available, you will therefore require only the minimum kit to get started.

Get a qualification

The RYA’s Start Yachting and Competent Crew courses are the perfect way to learn the basic principles of sailing whilst meeting like minded people and exploring new locations.
