Welcome to the Support Crew

Welcome to the brand new Skandia Team GBR Support Crew website which has been in  planning for a while now and we are really excited to be launching this weekend at the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show. We hope that the Support Crew will continue to boost the support for the team in the lead up to London 2012.

Whilst sailing is beginning to be recognised more widely within the public, we are still striving to gain recognition on the level that we think it deserves. While the sport is driven by performance, it is the personalities that really bring it to life and with that we want to really showcase some of the fantastic sailors in the team, and give you a better opportunity to get to know what really makes them tick. There are some really interesting features on the site, my favourite being the geofile map where you can see where the team are and what they are doing in real-time. The sailors are so often spread far and wide across the globe so this feature will really allow an insight into their travels. As the site develops you should see more features come on stream, and if you think of anything you would like to see then do let us know.

At the moment the team is training primarily in Weymouth and Palma. It’s only a few weeks until the Princess Sofia Regatta in Palma which is the first European ISAF World Cup Regatta of the season. There will then be one event a month in Hyeres( FRA), Medemblik (NED), Kiel (GER) before we arrive in the UK for the Skandia Sail for Gold regatta at the Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy. Before & after these events there are the World & European Championships for each of the 10 Olympic & 3 Paralympic classes so there will be plenty of action to follow.

We hope that you enjoy the site, and encourage all your friends to sign up too. Please let us know if you have any comments or requests for features and we will do our best to oblige.

Thank you for your continued support.
