The main event

Skandia Sail for Gold is our sole focus for the next 14 days. its basically been the main event for us in 2010. It’s at the Olympic venue, it’s the culmination of the ISAF Sailing World Cup so it’s a big deal and we’re looking forward to the competition

We are currently leading the ISAF World Cup standings, and with just a few points separate the top three boats and the Americans and French will be pushing us hard to knock us off the top spot. We are going into the event on the top spot so its easy to put too much pressure on yourself, its easy to fall into that trap, but we just need to stay focused. This is the final event of the World Cup Series and hopefully we will be able to walk away with both a regatta medal and as World Cup Champions.

We were training out in Palma over the winter, but we’ve been back in the UK training out of Weymouth since the spring so we feel good about the time we have put in on the water down here.  We just finished a warm up event down in the Olympic waters and had most of the competitors from Sail for Gold on site.  We managed to win so that always gives you a nice confidence boost going into the event. But we need to keep working hard and make sure that we keep tweaking where necessary, there is still plenty to do.

My little sister Kate has joined Annie and I and has only been with us for the last three events so we need to keep working on the boat handling as that will be key on the water, and making little adjustments here and there where it is needed. That’s just the nature of match racing, you learn after each race and whether you win or lose, you pick yourself up and move onto the next one. For us it is about the long run and learning as much as we can ahead of the Olympics where we hope we qualify and get to represent our county on home soil.
