A slight change of plan!

This week Sophie and I should have been out in Palma at the Princess Sofia Regatta, testing ourselves against the fleet early in the season. But I broke my finger in a training accident in Palma at the end of February and have been at home ever since.
The good news is I had a check up on Wednesday (2 April) and everything seems to be coming along ok even though it still looks really manky.
A hand specialist decided inserting a wire in my finger to help it heal in place was my best option, and I’ve been called Eilidh hook finger ever since! Why? Because the wire actually pokes out of the end of my finger!
I had that operation on March 12 and I keep catching it on stuff! It’s the weirdest sensation when that happens, it doesn’t hurt, it just tingles a bit, but it’s weird.
I’m scheduled to have the wire taken out on 17 April and then fly to Hyeres the next day. The plan is to do the World Cup event, where racing starts on 21 April, but I’ll have to keep a splint on my finger for some time so we will just see how I go.
I’ve actually tried not to look at what’s been going on at the regatta in Palma too much this week. I haven’t wanted to upset myself thinking about not being there.
I fractured the tip of my index finger after I sat on my hand being knocked backwards going up the face of a wave.
To start with I felt no pain; it had been a tough session and I was so focused on wanting to go faster I didn’t even contemplate that I’d hurt myself. I went straight back on the wire and carried on. But then I looked at my finger and it wasn’t fine!
