Champagne Sailing In Palma

The First Palma Skandia Team GBR Squad Training Camp could not have come at a better time - good winds, warm and sunny - in contrast to the elements we have been been battling back home.

Only a half strength camp with many staying home to train on the waters of Weymouth but i guess we got this one right! Looking out the window of the Arenal Sailing Club, strong cafe con leche in hand, today looks like another good one.
Overseeing the camp here is easy, with Adrian Campbell and Chris Gordon, physiologists and Physio looking after the shore side training, leaves me with time to get some miles under the belt with my Windsurfing Mens Squad on the water. And I mean miles. First day in 15 to 18knots of breeze and travelling at between 15 and 25kts the RSX windsurfer literally sailed over the horizon. The race downwind back to the beach was a marathon.
Still could have been worse, as the previous day, before I had arrived, the boys did the same with Nick Dempsey leading the charge after having virtually reached Africa and of course the perfect time for the head of the sail to tear and the result being a very slow and long sail back. I guess the others will still count the finishing positions!
Adios Barrie
