Next Stop Hollywood

On Wednesday morning, Caroline and myself faced a dilemma.

We had our team (Bolstered by Steve and Ellie) for the Soton Creatives Lego Stop Motion contest, and we wanted to recreate a film, but we needed to agree on one which we all liked.

Forrest Gump?”

“Something classic… Something like Back to the Future or Jaws or something”

“I like Jaws.”

“I like Jaws!”

The idea was born. We decided to dedicate a whole evening of our lives to bringing a scene from Jaws to life, and after Tom promised us a free lunch if we won, we set about making our plans.

We printed off a sea background, made a storyboard and gathered the necessary filming equipment - We ended up using one iPad to film, two phones for additional lighting and two boxes of Pirate themed “Lego” (It wasn’t real lego, much to the mild chagrin of Lego Movie fanboys everywhere).

In tribute to one of the best horror films of all time (And surely, the best shark film of all time… Sorry Sharknado) we constructed a scene where two men at sea come face to face with a big ass shark.

Not Jaws

Naturally, they proclaim their need for a bigger boat, complete with a dolly zoom effect before both falling victim to the nefarious selachimorpha (Yes, I googled that) encircling them.

2 hours or so later, we had our completed masterpiece! I don’t want to oversell it, but it’s pretty much the Citizen Kane of shark movie themed lego animations. The judges seemed to agree, and awarded our team 1st place, which was a real honour.

Anyway, enough yammering - You want to see this thing, right?

This is better that the Jaws sequels. I’m not even kidding. Thanks, Soton Creatives!
