Selenium + ACE is an advanced one-a-day formulation providing 200µg of highly bioavailable (body-ready) organic selenium bound yeast, alongside beneficial levels of vitamin A (100µg RE), naturally sourced vitamin E (10mg α-TE) and vitamin C (60mg). Vitamins A, C and E have been included as they perfectly complement selenium’s beneficial actions.

Oxidative stress can occur during exercise when our consumption of oxygen increases. Antioxidants including selenium, vitamin C and vitamin E help to neutralise the effect oxidative damage can have on cells within the body.

Selenium plays a number of vital roles in the body, including providing support for the maintenance of the immune system.

Product Origins

The selenium in our Healthspan Elite product is selenium yeast, an organic amino acid which is the same form as is found naturally in food sources. We have selected this form, over inorganic sources such as selenate or selenite, as studies have consistently shown that it has a significantly higher bioavailability as it is better absorbed and retained. The bioavailability has been estimated at more than 90% which is twice that of inorganic forms.

Our yeast (saccharomyces cerevisiae) is grown under carefully controlled conditions in the presence of sodium selenite. The yeast incorporates the mineral into its cellular proteins so that the selenium becomes organically bound. The yeast is then dried on drum driers. The final product is essentially selenomethionine, the form of selenium the body requires to form all selenium related compounds, and is clinically proven to physiologically improve selenium status in the human body.

Selenium is a naturally occurring trace element and as such is found in soil. Soils contain inorganic selenites and selenates that plants accumulate and convert to organic forms, mostly selenocysteine and selenomethionine (which are the forms usable to humans and animals). Soil around the world varies in its selenium concentration and correspondingly the higher the concentration of selenium in soil, the higher the concentration of selenium in crops.
