Shaw’s final push at Qingdao World Cup

All to play for as Bryony Shaw enters the final two days of competition
Bryony Shaw is poised in sixth place after eight races and heading into the final two days of competition at the ISAF Sailing World Cup regatta in Qingdao, China (14-19 October).
The world silver medal-winning windsurfer is the sole British entrant at the Qingdao event, which kicks off the 2013-14 World Cup series, with Shaw returning to the same waters where she won her emotional 2008 Olympic bronze.
Renowned as a light wind location, this week’s regatta at the eastern Chinese venue has thrown up a variety of conditions, including gusts of 37 knots which ruled out any racing on the second day of competition.
After a shaky start, which saw a DNF in race two and an OCS penalty for a premature start in race four, RS:X racer Shaw hit back to post a win and a second in races seven and eight on Thursday (17 October) to keep her within reach of the podium spots.
China’s Peina Chen currently leads the women’s RS:X event, with Israel’s world bronze medallist Maayan Davidovich in second.Medal racing for the top ten boats on Saturday 19 October will determine the overall podium spots, so check back in to www.britishsailingteam.com to find out how Shaw fares.
