Sign up for three weekends of Olympic Classes racing at WPNSA

Online entries are now open for the 2013 RYA Autumn Olympic Classes National Ranking Series which will take place across three weekends at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy.

The opening event will be held on the weekend of the 19-20 October and will offer a highly-competitive and exciting racing environment for aspiring stars of the future, as well as keen club sailors, to test their skills against Great Britain’s top sailors whilst competing on the world class waters of Weymouth and Portland.

The second event will take place on the final weekend of October (26-27 October) while the third and final event of the Series will be held on the 16-17 November. The event is compulsory for all British Sailing Team Podium and Podium Potential Squad members.

RYA grants and qualification for key international regattas are at stake, with racing across the Series taking place across seven Olympic and three Paralympic classes – the 470 men, 470 women, 470 mixed, Finn, 49er, 49er FX, Nacra 17, RSX 8.5, RSX 9.5, 2.4mR, SKUD and the Sonar. Please check the Olympic Classes Handbook HERE for information about individual class programmes and which events count towards the Series for each Olympic and Paralympic Class.

To avoid the increased late entry fee, entries must be made by 14 October for the first weekend, 21 October for the second weekend and 11 November for the third and final weekend at WPNSA.

Barrie Edgington, British Sailing Team Podium Potential Squad Manager, commented: “The RYA Autumn National Ranking Series provides a fantastic opportunity for the nations up-and-coming Olympic and Paralympic classes talents to test themselves against the best of the best from the British Sailing Team. In order to keep the racing fast and furious, this year we will endeavour to run more races in a shorter race format, with targeted races benefitting from umpired medal style racing.”

“Weymouth and Portland will no doubt throw up a mixture of conditions across the three weekends with racing taking place inside Portland Harbour and out in Weymouth Bay. I would advise sailors to get their entries in now in order to take advantage of the discounts which are available for entering the three weekends in advance.”
