Dylan Fletcher and Alain Sign maintain the yellow jerseys after day three in Marseille

Dylan Fletcher and Alain Sign know that it will take cool heads amid hot and light wind conditions in Marseille if they’re to remain at the top of the leaderboard when the 49er World Championships draws to a close on Sunday (29 September).

At the close of play on Thursday, half way through the six-day regatta, the European Champions were in possession of the yellow leaders’ jerseys having won three of the five races held so far as they head into the semi-final stage on Friday.

They were unable to improve on their scoreline on Thursday, with painfully light winds calling a halt to the one attempted race when the British Sailing Team duo had been in a leading position.

But in spite of the testing conditions, Fletcher remains up for the podium challenge.

“There are more competitors than there have been, pretty much everyone from the Games is here so the level of competition is really high and it certainly feels like it’s stepped up since the Europeans.

“We’ve come here to win, as we always do!  We’d be really happy with a medal, but ultimately the goal is to win.”

Hear more from Fletcher and Sign, plus leading British 49erFX duo Frances Peters and Nicola Groves who are currently seventh in this first ever World Championship for the new women’s Olympic skiff class.
