The Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver on head games and super speed in 'Ultron'

The two biggest additions to the "Avengers" ensemble in next month's "Avengers: Age Of Ultron" are Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. They play a key role in the mega-sequel, and they manage to create some interesting tensions for both the heroes and the villains in the film. Olsen was the first to sit down with us on the set, and we jumped right in, having already heard a number of things about her character from the rest of the cast. Can you talk about your Eastern European accent? (looking at the Marvel producers) Can I talk about it? We know that we're from Eastern Europe, so, okay, so, yeah, it’s something that we got to create. It's a make believe place, so it's something that Aaron and I, with the dialect coach, kind of created together.   What's the name of the fake country? That I can't talk about, but it's, »

Wilco cancels Indiana show after 'Religious Freedom' law passage

In 2010-2011, after a controversial immigration law was passed in Arizona, some musicians and sports event organizers (among others) boycotted by refusing to tour through the state in protest. The Arizona boycott reportedly cost the state $140 million in its earliest months. The "Indiana Religious Freedom Restoration Act" is showing some early signs of sparking a similar movement. Pan to Wilco's Facebook page: We are canceling our May 7 show at the Murat in Indianapolis. The “Indiana Religious Freedom Restoration Act” feels like thinly disguised legal discrimination to us. Hope to get back to the Hoosier State someday soon, when this odious measure is repealed. Refunds available at point of purchase. Connecticut is the first full and official state to jump on a nationwide movement to boycott Indiana; San Francisco was the first city. As outlets like the Washington Post point out, however, there are several other states that have similarly inacted »

StreamFix: Must-watch 'Daily Show' correspondent movies on Netflix now

Thanks to the news of Trevor Noah taking over Jon Stewart's "Daily Show" desk, we remembered something: Wow, "Daily Show" alums have basically taken over the world. If they're not landing primetime sitcom gigs, they're scoring Oscar nominations and populating romcoms. To celebrate Noah's new post, let's take a look at five Netflix picks starring the friends, colleagues, and cronies of Jon Stewart. Watch 'em now.  "Trevor Noah: African American" If you haven't been introduced to your new "Daily Show" host's brand of observational humor yet, check out his comedy special where he discusses his home country of South Africa and why racial relations there, even during the age of apartheid, are/were less complicated than in the U.S. His bit about Oprah Winfrey's leadership academy is particularly inspired. And a little unsettling! "Bruce Almighty" Oscar nominee Steve Carell wasn't always scarring you with his fake "Foxcatcher" nose and deathly "Foxcatcher" stare. »

263 days until Star Wars: Why didn't Jabba turn Han Solo into a custom coffee table?

When Jabba the Hutt finally got his prized possession — in the form of one frozen Han Solo — he hung his rare collectible on the wall. Mint in box, as it were. But what if Jabba had been slightly less finicky about his carbonite art? Isn’t it more insulting to leave a coffee stains and water rings on your enemy’s perpetually frozen face? Super Fan Builds thinks so. They set out to create a functional Han Solo in Carbonite coffee table for one lucky superfan. Bonus! You can open in up and sleep inside. Not sure why you’d want to, but the option is there.   »

'Walk of Shame Shuttle' tries to be a modern 'Taxicab Confessions'

VH1's "Walk of Shame Shuttle" acknowledges its obvious connection to an early reality show: "Taxicab Confessions," on which passengers shared intimate details of their lives with the driver, only later learning that it was being taped. The VH1 version calls itself "a modern day" version of HBO's show "but with less drunkenness and more hang over humor." It also has fewer confessions. Two comedians and a third driver -- more about her later -- pick up people and drive them someplace. So, there's no walking; there's also virtually no shame. Not that people should be embarrassed about their one-night stands or their sexuality, but there's no hesitation to share in front of cameras. Unlike "Taxicab Confessions," the cameras and the show aren't hidden, so it's a full-on performance from the drivers and a diverse array of passengers. Many of them are very entertaining. One man talks about how excited »

Outrage Watch: Katy Perry scores a K.O. over Ok

Welcome to the March 30, 2015 edition of Outrage Watch, HitFix's (almost) daily rundown of all the things folks are peeved about in entertainment. Today's top story: Katy Perry scores a win over the tabloid press. Ok! magazine has retracted a story claiming that the pop superstar was pregnant and planning a wedding with ex-boyfriend John Mayer, presumably after threats of legal action by the singer. Perry subsequently retweeted the magazine's entire retraction before following up with the tweet: Remember these magazines are fiction designed for entertainment. No One speaks for me. Instead let the previous tweets speak for themselves. — Katy Perry (@katyperry) March 30, 2015 Assuming she typed this from atop an animatronic tiger. Want more? There's plenty of indignation to go around. See below for a full roundup of today's kerfuffles. Outraged: Twitter Target: Roger Moore Why: The former 007 star became the target of vitriol over the weekend after he was quoted »

5 grimly hilarious moments in Scientology's history

Frankly, I am still coping with every odious aspect of Scientology as illustrated in "Going Clear," HBO's blockbuster documentary about L. Ron Hubbard's glitzy "church" and its indoctrinated, oft-abused followers. Plenty is not funny about what's done to keep devoted followers in horrifying conditions. For instance: Who knows where David Miscavige's wife Shelly is? According to Tony Ortega, who was featured in "Going Clear," it's nowhere you want to be.  But even the grimmest absurdity is often hilarious, as "Going Clear" itself proved. As we begin to understand everything we learned (or re-learned) in "Going Clear," let's focus on five moments in Scientology's history that are undeniably, insanely, creepily funny.  1. That L. Ron Hubbard has said -- in print -- "I'd like to start a religion. That's where the real money is."  In fact, L. Ron Hubbard said several versions of this statement worded several different ways. It's just a fact. »

'Walking Dead' finale, 'Killing Jesus' draw big Sunday numbers

The latest season finale of "The Walking Dead" and the premiere of National Geographic's "Killing Jesus" both delivered notable numbers on Sunday (March 29).  [Insert facile resurrection/Zombie Jesus joke.] The three-hour broadcast of "Killing Jesus" delivered 3.7 million viewers, the largest total viewership of any program in NatGeo history. "Killing Jesus" also did the second highest household rating in NatGeo history and did the network's top rating in its key 25-54 demo since "Killing Kennedy" in November 2013. Check out my exhaustive and amusing coverage from the "Killing Jesus" set in Morocco. The 90-minute finale of "The Walking Dead," meanwhile, drew 15.8 million viewers, including 10.4 million among adults 18-49. It was the zombie drama's highest-rated finale ever. AMC boasts that for the 16-episode season, all 16 episodes ranked among the Top 50 telecasts on all of TV in the 18-49 demo and among the Top 20 entertainment telecasts for the season. "Talking Dead" drew 7.5 million viewers, including 4.9 million in the 18-49 demo, »

Do you miss the band The Civil Wars? Here's Joy Williams' solo single 'Woman'

Oh mama! Here is the single "Woman (Oh Mama)" from Joy Williams, one-half of the now-dissolved folk group The Civil Wars. With hand-claps, chanting, marimba churning and minor harmonies, we're getting a very distinctive Zulu vibe, which may send you reeling toward your copy of "My Life in the Bush of Ghosts." "Woman" is off of Williams' forthcoming album "Venus," due this summer. Getting a very lady vibe here. »

Make your work place more awkward with this new Fifth Harmony video

The women in Fifth Harmony bonded, er, banded together for another new music video, this time for single "Worth It" from off of their debut album "Reflection." Some warnings if you display this work-themed video in your place of business, if you hadn't  screened "Bo$$" -- also job preoccupied -- already: The women in feminine dress -- skirts and shirts that could be described as "bondage blouses" -- are secretaries, while the women in male dress are the "bosses." The "co-worker" themed singer can't just leave the man with the ticker tape alone. A signifier of power and status: having your own driver. A very insensitive signifier of power and status: having your own black male driver. Drive safe! The phrase "I'm worth it" applies to receiving a raise or a starting salary. It also works within the confines of prostitution. Platforms are terrible golf shoes, but if you're going to play in them, »

'Daredevil' character posters prove Hell's Kitchen is the next fashion mecca

The character posters for Marvel’s “Daredevil” are here. The mean streets of Hell’s Kitchen aren’t going to stop these folks from looking fabulous. Interestingly, the Josie’s Bar Easter Egg from the motion poster seems to have been airbrushed out of the character panorama. But what is this, a poster for ants!? Enhance! #1: Charlie Cox as Matt MurdockDaredevil. Still expecting those red-tinted glasses to start popping up in stores.   #2: Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple. Girlfriend’s eyebrow game is on point…and what is that blue necklace she’s wearing?   #3: Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson. Starting a betting pool now that Nelson has to defends his satchel as “not a purse.”   #4: Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page. In Hell’s Kitchen, I bet that purse is filled with belt buckles to beat muggers with.   #5: Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk. It »

Best and Worst Moments from the 2015 iHeartRadio Music Awards

Rihanna doesn't break the fourth wall. Last night at the iHeartRadio Music Awards in Los Angeles, the Unapologetic singer debuted her new single, "Bitch Better Have My Money," and did it in true Rihanna fashion — with knee-high boots, a giant green fur coat and a full-scale replica helicopter looming behind her. There were no giggles, winks or nods at the camera, making the performance a welcome piece of method acting in a night hampered by production snafus and anticlimaxes. The Company Formerly Known as Clear Channel hit a couple... Read the rest of IHeartRadio Music Awards 2015's 10 Best and Worst Moments at RollingStone.com »

Watch Trevor Noah, your new 'Daily Show' host, in action

Trevor Noah, a 31-year-old comic originally from South Africa, has been named Jon Stewart's official successor as host of "The Daily Show." We'd stop to congratulate him, but we have to catch up on his standup past first. Here he is in his "Daily Show" debut last December lamenting America's Ebola panic. Here's Noah showing off, among other things, his horrifying German-speaking voice.  Turns out "napkin" means other things in other parts of the world. His message to New Yorkers: "Even your crazy people don't want to be bothered." And finally, here he is lamenting censorship on hip-hop radio stations. He'll have plenty of time to get used to the "Daily Show" desk before election season. So far, we're thrilled.   »

Listen: Firewall & Iceberg Podcast No. 274 - 'Younger,' 'American Odyssey'

Happy Monday, Boys & Girls.  It's time for another installment of The Firewall & Iceberg Podcast. Because I'm traveling today, we recorded this on Friday, but we're posting it today to keep on our regular schedule.  That means that we didn't talk at all about "The Walking Dead" and its finale, just as we haven't talked at all about the show this half-season. If you have any questions about "Walking Dead" and that second half, email us at FirewallIceberg@HitFix.com and we can get to that next podcast? Even without "Walking Dead," we had plenty to talk about, including reviews for "Weird Loners," "Younger" and "American Odyssey," some spoiler-free pre-season "Mad Men" talk and  some chatter about the finale for "The Mindy Project." We also touched on the return of "Outlander" and NBC's bizarre resurrection of "Coach." Next week's podcast? Insanity! But that's off in the future... Today's breakdown: "Coach" Returns »

March Mayhem Heroes Vs. Villains: The Top 8- Xena Fights for Her Crown

And now it’s gets serious.  Round 4 of Hitfix’s March Mayhem, the Second Annual Tournament of Heroes versus Villains kicks off this morning and the field is reeling from some stupendous upsets in Round 3, as some seemingly unstoppable titans continue their march towards destiny. The defending champion, Xena, Warrior Princess advances to the next round after easily besting poor little Arya Stark. The defeat marks the end of Game of Thrones’ dream of dominance in this tournament.  Across the board, Arya’s tormenter Cersei Lannister also fell to the might of Tony Soprano. Xena will go on to face Oliver Queen for the title of the TV Heroes division.  Queen scored a stunning upset, having defeated Walking Dead’s Rick Grimes.  Grimes had been the top vote getter in an earlier round, but Walking Dead fans stopped to rest just a moment too long. Up in the Movie Heroes division, »

Arya Stark hops aboard the Tardis this fall on ‘Doctor Who’

Sometime between boarding a ship in Westeros and entering the Free City of Baavos, Arya Stark made a pit stop on a blue phone box flying through space and time. BBC America just announced “Game of Thrones” and “Cyberbully” star Maisie Williams will have a yet unrevealed role on “Doctor Who.” During the announcement, showrunner Steven Moffat was as cryptic as ever: “We’re thrilled to have Maisie Williams joining us on Doctor Who. It’s not possible to say too much about who or what she’s playing, but she is going to challenge the Doctor in very unexpected ways. This time he might just be out of his depth, and we know Maisie is going to give him exactly the right sort of hell.” “Doctor Who” is currently filming two period adventures, “The Girl Who Died” and “The Woman Who Lived” Whether Williams is set to play either »

Trevor Noah to succeed Jon Stewart as 'Daily Show' host

"The Daily Show" has found a successor to Jon Stewart, and it's... South African comic Trevor Noah. “It’s an honor to follow Jon Stewart," Noah said in Comedy Central's announcement of the move. "He and the team at ‘The Daily Show’ have created an incredible show whose impact is felt all over the world. In my brief time with the show they’ve made me feel so welcome. I’m excited to get started and work with such a fantastic group of people.” “I’m thrilled for the show and for Trevor," Stewart himself added. "He’s a tremendous comic and talent that we’ve loved working with…In fact, I may rejoin as a correspondent just to be a part of it!!!” Since December, Noah has appeared a handful of times as a "Daily Show" correspondent, so this isn't exactly as sharp a departure as Craig Kilborn was replaced by Stewart, »

Season finale review: 'The Walking Dead' - 'Conquer': Wolves at the door?

A review of tonight's "The Walking Dead" finale coming up just as soon as I want my dish back clean when you're done... No matter what happens in the middle of a season, good or bad, "The Walking Dead" tends to do premieres and finales very well. This is the first time, though, that the series has ended a season with a 90-minute episode, and while the extra-long "Conquer" had some excellent things in it, it also had a number of stupid things, even if the latter occasionally got overtaken by the former. Case in point: the open gate. There is giving Rick an opportunity to prove to the Alexandrians how naive and defenseless they are, and there is having Deanna's other idiot son asking Father Gabriel to close the gate for him, then bolting for no particular reason (maybe he had to do some upper body work before the town meeting? »

Iggy Azalea and Jennifer Hudson at iHeartRadio: Prison Party?

Here are Iggy Azalea and Jennifer Hudson getting down at the iHeartRadio Music Awards (just before Nick Jonas took over with his own performance). Sure, there may be some lip-syncing here. And some of the dance moves may be bizarre. And the focus on toilets is strange. But I'll say it: This song is addictive. Still not convinced Iggy Azalea isn't just a Fanta girl.   »
