Helen Mirren, "I'll be in 'Fast and Furious 8'"

If someone is sitting down with Vin Diesel during press rounds for Furious 7 they damn well better ask him why he hasn't asked Helen Mirren to be in one of the films yet, because she certainly isn't afraid to let it be known she wants in. Speaking with Yahoo she had the following to say about wanting to star in one of the Fast & Furious movies to the point she says, "I'll be in Fast and Furious 8." My great ambition is to be in a Fast and Furious movie. I so want to be a mad driver in a Fast and Furious movie. My claim to fame is I always do my own driving -- I was on "Top Gear", and I did my lap in a very good time. I keep putting it out there, and they never ask me. I'll be in Fast and Furious 8. I have »

Let's Get Down to Business: Disney Making Live Action 'Mulan'

People of my generation have an unhealthy attachment to the movies of the Disney renaissance of the 1990s. Sure, some of them should be looked at fondly, like Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King, but some are held up in very high regard purely by nostalgia and not actual merit, like Hercules or Pocahontas. One of those movies that is not nearly as good as people remember it to be (and no one will care to change their opinion) is Mulan. But with the recent box office successes of Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent, and most recently Cinderella, Disney is going back to their catalogue once more with a live action adaptation of the film. There are reasons to like this decision. Primarily, it will put an entirely Asian cast (or hopefully entirely Asian) in a big budget, mainstream movie. How often does that come alongc Secondly, the script »

Opening to 'Spectre' to be Biggest the Bond Producers Have Ever Done

Bond producer Michael G. Wilson is making a bold claim telling Empire the opening sequence to the new James Bond movie Spectre, which takes place during the Day of the Dead celebration in Mexico, will be "the biggest opening sequence we've ever done, maybe the biggest sequence we've ever done". "The whole vision that director Sam Mendes has come up with is very exciting and amazing," Wilson added. "We've got 1500 extras in Day of the Dead costumes and make up and we've occupied the centre of Mexico City for days. The only thing that's come close to it was putting on the carnival in Rio in Moonraker see video, and I think this is a much bigger operation." So what does this opening entailc Well, according to Empire, we'll get "exploding buildings, a pulse-quickening foot chase through the Day Of The Dead parade and a fight inside a helicopter, which »

Jon Hamm Couldn't Do 'Gone Girl' Because He Wasn't Allowed Out of His "Mad Men" Contract

Booking the lead on a television show for an actor must be an exciting thing. You have a steady, day-to-day job, and if your series is well received and people watch it, you must be riding sky high. Although, because television shows, particularly hour-long, single-camera dramas, take up an exorbitant amount of time to shoot, you will have much less time to work on other projects that may be interesting to you. It's particularly more difficult if you have the chance for a great part in a big movie, directed by David Fincher, and your showrunner won't let you go shoot it. Such is the case with Jon Hamm. The St. Louis native was up for the part of Nick Dunne in Gone Girl -- maybe you've heard of it -- and instead of getting the part it went to Hamm's The Town director and co-star Ben Affleck. Watch: How Do They Make Those Nasty 'Mortal Kombat X' Sound Effectsc

No, this isn't strictly movie news, or even television news, but it's an art used in both mediums that just happens to be highlighted in a video taking a look behind the scenes of making the upcoming video game Mortal Kombat X. Below is a short video taking a look at how some Foley artists used Nickelodeon slime, a plunger, a bowl, their hands and a microphone to create some nasty sounds and below that I've included a video taking a look at several of the fatalities from the game where you just might be able to hear a few of these effects at work. Note: None of this is probably safe for work. yt id="65cS7D2yzUw" width="500" yt id="GV0q4O14Bf0" width="500" time="67" And if you want more on Foley and sound effects in film, this should help: yt id="_Jznye0iqYE" width="500" amz asin »

Paramount is Looking to Create a 'Transformers' Cinematic Universe

Paramount want in on the cinematic universe idea and after they had to hand off Iron Man, Captain America and the rest of The Avengers after Disney purchased Marvel, they aren't exactly left with all that much. They obviously have the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to exploit as production is underway on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, but I'm not sure how much of a cinematic universe there is to create there unless the turtles started going off on solo missions while vacationing in the Bahamas. So, what's leftc Okay, you cheated and looked at the headline, but yes, Transformers and as much as it will surely get people to scream, Ugh, but the Transformers movies suck! these movies make money, lots of money and consistently. Transformers: Dark of the Moon made $1.12 billion in 2011 and Transformers: Age of Extinction brought in $1.09 billion last year. On top of that, while I'm no Transformers expert, »

Watch: Tarantino Profiles to the Beat of 'Whiplash'

Rishi Kaneria has put together this excellent 44-second video that simply takes profile shots from Quentin Tarantino's movies, sticks 'em in a circle and sets the beat to the tune of "Snare Liftoff" from Whiplash. Kaneria notes that "certain shots have been scaled, rotated or mirrored from their original format to create the effect seen in this video", but I don't think any of us will have any problem with that. I can't say the video has any measure of educational value as much as it's a fun little watch as it covers much of Tarantino's oeuvre including Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill Volume 1, Kill Bill Volume 2, Death Proof, Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained. Give it a watch below and if you're playing it on your speakers at work, there's a little eff-bomb at the end you may not want coming from your cubicle. via 35mm »

Bryan Singer Teaser Angel in 'X-Men: Apocalypse' with New Concept Art

Bryan Singer has mastered the art of teasing fans on social media when it comes to production on X-Men: Apocalypse and he's at it again, posting the above image on his Instagram account more-or-less confirming the character Angel will be seen in the new movie. As you'll all remember, Ben Foster played Angel in the lackluster X-Men: The Last Stand, but the X-verse timeline has since been altered so that Angel is most likely not this Angel and I wouldn't expect Foster to return to play the character either, unless Singer is still holding back surprises. Fans of the comics will surely speculate what this image of Angel trapped in a cage means, but over at ComicBookMovie.com they write:"Could that be an early Mr. Sinister conducting itc Who knows, but in a movie with Apocalypse, Angel not being included would have been a big mistake. Here's hoping we »

'Tron 3' Eyes October Start, is It Titled 'Tron: Ascension'c

I was not a huge fan of Tron: Legacy, but one thing I will say for it is I really enjoyed where it ended. In fact, as much as I thought the film itself was a bit of a dud, had it continued on for another two hours I think they might have had one hell of a great four hour film on their hands. That said, have you heard the news Tron 3 is looking at beginning production in Vancouver this Fallc Word broke earlier this month that Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy, Oblivion) was returning to direct after news first surfaced in the VanCity Buzz and seemed to be later confirmed by the trades. I reached out to Disney and they gave me the "we have no idea" response so I didn't write much else about it. However, today Production Weekly sent out a tweet reporting once again that »

Watch: New, Extended Featurette for Ryan Gosling's 'Lost River'

Usually, when I think of a featurette, I think of something that illuminates some behind the scenes material about the film. For Warner Bros., I guess it means just a little bit longer of a trailer. Such is the case with this latest featurette for Ryan Gosling's directorial debut Lost River, which you can watch below. I saw the film at SXSW and didn't care for it all that much. It's not a terrible movie but feels like wasted potential. It is visually stylish, sure, and this featurette definitely demonstrates that. But once you look beyond that, there is not much going on here that's particularly interesting. People will still be curious to see how Gosling handles himself behind the camera, because people have a weird obsession with him. And that's fine. Do what you please. But the movie has much more to offer you than the featurette you can watch below. »

New 'Mad Max: Fury Road' Trailers Explore Chaos and Retaliation

Over the weekend I received my screener copy of the upcoming May 5 Blu-ray release of the original Mad Max, a film I've seen only once before. In fact, I've only seen The Road Warrior once before and have never seen Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome. I'm thinking I need to revisit the first two and get acquainted with Thunderdome before I sit down with Mad Max: Fury Road on May 15. Fortunately, there's more than enough time between now and then to do just that, but that doesn't mean Warner Bros. isn't promoting the hell out of this movie. amz asin="B00T73AO0W" size="small"We've seen trailer after trailer, then a sizzle reel was shown at SXSW and now we have three explosion-packed new trailers to preview, including new footage from the movie as well as a reminder of just how many explosions this thing is going to pack. »

A New Attraction is Killing for Sport in New 'Jurassic World' Trailer

This new Jurassic World movie is going to be an interesting one. The first movie in the franchise had us marveling at the visual wizardry as prehistoric dinosaurs came to life in John Hammond's (the late Richard Attenborough) Jurassic Park. Things got out of hand when Dennis Nedry decided he wanted to make a little money selling dino DNA. Now, the humans are causing problems again as they continue to play God by not only bringing us dinosaurs (despite the problems the last three times around), but by purposely creating a new breed of dinosaur, the Ultrakillosaurus and it is gobbling up everything in sight. Just below is the new Jurassic World trailer, give it a peek and let me know if you'll be in line when the park opens back up on June 12. yt id="yaWuNjHH2xA" width="500" Twenty-two years after the events of Jurassic Park, Isla Nublar »

Hugh Jackman Suggests He'll Play Wolverine 'One Last Time'

Yeaaaaah.... riiiiight.... Sure Hugh Jackman, we believe you when you say the as yet Untitled Wolverine Sequel will be your last time to play the character. It's like they always say, "ninth time's a charm." That's right, to this point Jackman has played the X-Men character Wolverine seven times with his upcoming appearance in X-Men: Apocalypse being the eighth and his turn in what is effectively Wolverine 3 (or Wolverine 2 if you're not counting X-Men Origins: Wolverine) being his ninth and now he suggests on his Instagram page he's donning the claws "one last time". Do you believe himc Jackman has said something similar before and I personally believe he's destined to play the character as long as he remains in good enough shape to show up, even if it's just a cameo as was his fifth appearance in an uncredited role in X-Men: First Class. Of course, at the age »
