People of my generation have an unhealthy attachment to the movies of the Disney renaissance of the 1990s. Paramount want in on the cinematic universe idea and after they had to hand off Iron Man, Captain America and the rest of The Avengers after Disney purchased Marvel, they aren't exactly left with all that much. Rishi Kaneria has put together this excellent 44-second video that simply takes profile shots from Quentin Tarantino's movies, sticks 'em in a circle and sets the beat to the tune of "Snare Liftoff" from Whiplash. Kaneria notes that "certain shots have been scaled, rotated or mirrored from their original format to create the effect seen in this video", but I don't think any of us will have any problem with that. Bryan Singer has mastered the art of teasing fans on social media when it comes to production on X-Men: Apocalypse and he's at it again, posting the above image on his Instagram account more-or-less confirming the character Angel will be seen in the new movie. I was not a huge fan of Tron: Legacy, but one thing I will say for it is I really enjoyed where it ended. Usually, when I think of a featurette, I think of something that illuminates some behind the scenes material about the film. For Warner Bros., I guess it means just a little bit longer of a trailer. Such is the case with this latest featurette for Ryan Gosling's directorial debut Lost River, which you can watch below. I saw the film at SXSW and didn't care for it all that much. It's not a terrible movie but feels like wasted potential. It is visually stylish, sure, and this featurette definitely demonstrates that. But once you look beyond that, there is not much going on here that's particularly interesting. People will still be curious to see how Gosling handles himself behind the camera, because people have a weird obsession with him. And that's fine. Do what you please. Over the weekend I received my screener copy of the upcoming May 5 Blu-ray release of the original Mad Max, a film I've seen only once before. In fact, I've only seen The Road Warrior once before and have never seen Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome. I'm thinking I need to revisit the first two and get acquainted with Thunderdome before I sit down with Mad Max: Fury Road on May 15. This new Jurassic World movie is going to be an interesting one. The first movie in the franchise had us marveling at the visual wizardry as prehistoric dinosaurs came to life in John Hammond's (the late Richard Attenborough) Jurassic Park. Things got out of hand when Dennis Nedry decided he wanted to make a little money selling dino DNA.
