Social Sail Date Change
In a slight change to the original program of events. The social sailing day, planning for Saturday 25th Oct, has moved forward one day to Sunday 26th Oct. The 26th was originally reserved for racing, specifically the Autumn and Junior events, this event will not be run on the day but will continue as normal the following week. On Saturday 25th October the lake will be used for the Comet Open event.
We have taken the decision to schedule a Social Sail/Start Racing Regatta on Sunday 26th October instead of the planned club racing (Autumn Series, Junior Championship and Novice Championship races 13-15). It will run from 11 am to 3.30 pm with plenty of opportunity for all to enjoy time on the water in a fun, social atmosphere.
Should you just wish to social sail, there will be ample opportunity. But, if Bart's Bash gave you a taste for social racing, why not join in with a few short races, just for the fun of it. Regular Sunday racers will also be around having fun, racing one another and hopefully offering useful advice if required.
Mission Accomplished
Today (21st September 2014) we took part in Bart's Bash and with 36 boats on the water we did our bit for the World Record attempt. Congratulations to all involved, especially to those participating in their first race. I hope it will encourage you to try a regular race in future. Results are being compiled and will be submitted to the official Bart’s Bash website within the next 24 hours. Here you will be able to see how you fared against the world’s best. Redesmere’s results will be put onto the website shortly too. Also, some pictures of the day have been placed into the website gallery. Check them out.
Also, the start and finish were recorded as evidence of our participation. The start has been added to youtube for your viewing pleasure! Ever wondered what happens in the committee boat before the start - find out here! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bro7MSbs7B8
A very special thanks to the officers, safety crew and witnesses who all did a splendid job.
Barts Bash
We have registered to take part in Barts Bash, the largest sailing event in the world www.bartsbash.co.uk . We will be racing against over 600 clubs in 60 different countries and against Yachts, dinghies and windsurfers, all attempting a world record.
We are registered on Barts Bash site http://www.bartsbash.co.uk/club/redesmere-sailing-club and you can now sign up to race on the day. If you do race on the day, you will be racing against Ben Ainslie in a Finn, Iain Percy in a Star, Paul Goodison in a Moth, Jimmy Spithill in a Melges E-Scow and Loick Peyron in his Trimaran.
By entering the race now, our club will get an idea as to the number of people who intend to race on the day and it will also give us a good representation on the Barts Bash website.
The event is a fundraiser for the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation, www.andrewsimpsonsailing.org.uk and we will be asking for a £5 donation as your entry fee for each person sailing on the day.
It would be great if as a club, we could rally round and support this great cause whilst having our clubs largest race on the water and racing against a “whos who of sailing superstars”.
