Each Joint Physio Glucosamine & Chondroitin tablet combines optimum beneficial levels of patented Optiflex® glucosamine HCl 500mg alongside highly concentrated chondroitin sulphate 400mg (90%).

Optiflex® Glucosamine HCI

Glucosamine is found naturally in relatively high concentrations in the joints and connective tissues, where it plays a critical role. Healthspan Elite’s patented Optiflex glucosamine provides 40% MORE glucosamine per gram compared with the more common glucosamine sulphate 2KCl.

Produced from a sustainable corn base via a special fermentation process, Optiflex glucosamine is 100% free from shellfish and associated allergens.

Chondroitin Sulphate (90%)

Chondroitin sulphate is a glycosaminoglycan that is found in joint cartilage, an area of the body that is particularly vulnerable to wear and tear. Clinical studies often combine glucosamine and chondroitin to assess their beneficial impacts. The chondroitin sulphate used in this formulation is the highly concentrated 90% grade.

Three tablets daily provide our nutrition experts’ recommended intake of 1,500mg Optiflex glucosamine HCl and 1,200mg chondroitin sulphate to support the areas of your body that come under particular stress.

Product Origins

Chondroitin Sulphate

Our chondroitin is from a completely natural source and is extracted from an organic by-product of the fishing industry. This method of sourcing has minimal impact on the environment and marine eco-system and is in line with our environmental and social responsibility policy.

The chondroitin in our Joint Physio supplement is always premium grade. Our industry leading purification process removes unwanted excipients to leave a minimum of 90% pure chondroitin. Using membrane devices including ultrafiltration and diafiltration we successfully remove all contaminants and toxins for the highest quality chondroitin on the market.

Chondroitin sulfate is a sulfated glycosaminoglycan (GAG) composed of a chain of alternating sugars. In the most common scenario, the sulphated groups are found on the 2, 4 and 6 positions of the chain. The source of chondroitin sulphate can be identified by chemically analysing the ratios of the sulphated groups’ positions. Marine sourced chondroitin, such as that used by Healthspan Elite, has a significantly higher % composition in position 6. Healthspan Elite analyse their chondroitin at regular intervals to assess this, effectively guaranteeing the quality and source of the raw material. A number of research studies have found that some commercially available chondroitin supplements are not from the source advertised on the label and consequently it is important to choose a reputable supplier who performs this type of analysis.

Glucosamine HCl

With rigorous management of raw ingredients, the glucosamine in our Joint Physio supplement is manufactured using a specialised fermentation process in accordance with HACCP principles and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).

The manufacturing process involves the fermentation of an Aspergillus niger biomass with a vegetal substrate which produces chitosan as a by-product. The chitosan is extracted and processed to achieve glucosamine HCl of an extremely high purity without the allergenic residue or contaminant risks which are normally associated with more standard shellfish derived glucosamine.

Our premium grade glucosamine is molecularly identical to that sourced from animal products and provides exactly the same benefits. As glucosamine is not exclusive to animal sources we made a conscious decision to derive from sustainable corn to create a product which is suitable for vegetarians and vegans and is also shellfish free. This has the added benefit that we can produce without the contaminants, environmental impact, and seasonality related to the production and sourcing of shellfish-derived glucosamine.

The glucosamine hydrochloride (HCl), in our supplements is naturally stable, requires no added preservatives and is sodium free. This is in contrast with other commercially available glucosamine products that are stabilised with potassium sulphate to create glucosamine sulphate 2KCl or sodium sulphate to create glucosamine sulphate NaCl.

The use of the more premium high purity glucosamine HCl form has the added benefit that the active levels of free-base glucosamine can be achieved in a much smaller tablet size. For the same amount of free-base glucosamine provided in a Healthspan Elite’s 1500mg tablet you would need 2115mg of a glucosamine sulphate 2KCl supplement.
