Are you interested in working as a deckhand on luxury superyachts? Our Superyacht Crew Training course is designed to meet the growing demand for well-trained professional crew on luxury yachts and superyachts.

This course is the ideal entry route into the industry. It offers the simplest and most effective way to gain entry level employment as a deckhand or crew aboard yachts of all sizes, including the largest superyachts. This course provides a stepping stone into an industry which offers a wealth of travel opportunities and experiences.

Duration: 6 weeks

Crew Training Syllabus

Practical sailing

Be confident and competent in all aspects of crewing large vessels – you will gain experience sailing, crewing, watch keeping and practicing seamanship skills onboard our fleet of 36-45ft yachts.

Seamanship skills training

  • Deck work
  • Look out duties and watch keeping
  • Routine maintenance, including cleaning of vessel and preparation of vessel for sea
  • Tender duties
  • Muster and safety routines
  • Crew work for mooring, anchoring and departure

Shore-based training

Principles of boat handling and coastal navigation, rules of the road and radio training.

Care of the vessel

  • Care of glass fibre, paintwork and varnish, sail repair, winch servicing, rope work, rigging
  • Diesel engine maintenance and basic repairs, outboard engine maintenance

Career progression

If after graduating from this course you have decided this is an industry where you would like to forge a lifelong career you can return to UKSA to gain the qualifications needed to progress your career.

Many of our Superyacht Crew Training graduates return to undertake training to gain the essential RYA Yachtmaster qualification. This is done by either taking our Professional Yachtmaster (Offshore), Professional Yachtmaster (Ocean) or our coveted Superyacht Cadetship.

Notes

1. ENG 1 Medical – You must have an ENG 1 seafarer medical fitness certificate to work at sea if you are a seafarer, in charge of a ship or are serving on a merchant ship or yacht. The maximum fee for an ENG 1 medical examination is £80, must be issued by a doctor approved by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA).  Please follow the link below to see a list of all MCA approved doctors based in the UK.
