RYA SafeTrx App - tracking technology in the palm of your hand 

New RYA SafeTrx App will be available from mid-June.

Following the article in the summer 2014 issue of the RYA Members’ Magazine, the RYA can announce that the new RYA SafeTrx App will be available to download from mid-June 2014.

RYA SafeTrx is a Smartphone App for both Android & Apple iOS devices (iPhone, iPad). The RYA SafeTrx App monitors your boat trip and alerts Emergency Contacts should you fail to return on time.

You can enter your trip details directly on your Smartphone and set off knowing that if you do not end the trip by the time you have given, your Emergency Contact will be sent an SMS with advice on what to do.

The RYA SafeTrx App periodically sends your trip data back to our secure servers. If an Emergency Contact calls HM Coastguard about an overdue trip, the Coastguard can view that particular trip enabling them to respond more quickly.

Whilst the app is not intended as a replacement for normally approved distress alerting devices and navigational aids (VHF, EPIRB, AIS etc.) there are many types of small craft where these might not be practical. The RYA SafeTrx App can help to raise an alarm earlier and assist emergency services to locate casualties more accurately.

The RYA SafeTrx App is free for RYA members to download and use. Non-members will have to pay a nominal charge per trip.

The RYA SafeTrx App will be available to download from mid- June 2014.
