RYA Scotland welcomes marine tourism strategy
RYA Scotland attends launch of Marine Tourism Strategy for Scotland - Awakening the Giant.
RYA Scotland chairman Tony Gorzkowski and volunteers gathered in Glasgow yesterday (5 March) along with Tourism Minister Fergus Ewing and ocean adventurer Mark Beaumont to help launch a five year strategy for Scotland’s Marine Tourism sector.
World class destination
The strategy titled ‘Awakening the Giant’ aims to grow the total value of the sector by boosting Scotland’s reputation as a world class marine tourism destination and bringing even more visitors to the coastlines and canals.
Tony Gorzkowski, Chairman of RYA Scotland, said about the launch of the new strategy: “RYA Scotland has been extremely committed to helping to develop the strategy and prepare it for its launch.
"The target of growing the value of the sector by 25% is a significant challenge and will require substantial investment but this has been seen as an opportunity to try to guarantee the future success of the marine tourism sector in Scotland and ultimately Scotland’s tourism economy.”
Working in partnership
RYA Scotland works tirelessly to protect and promote boating in Scotland and with a membership of over 6000 people in Scotland and 103,000 across the UK, therefore is a respected source of advice and guidance on the interests of the boating community in Scotland.
Events such as the RYA Scotland Commonwealth Flotilla last summer are a great example of the fantastic scenery, quality facilities and inspirational visitor experiences that Scotland has to offer people.
These provide strong foundations which RYA Scotland and the other partners can build on to drive forward this strategy.
