RYA Yachtmaster Ocean - 5 day Shore Based course with Online Home Study option
# Course reference number: TC3
Yachtmaster Ocean is the pinnacle of the RYA Sail Cruising & Yachtmaster Scheme.
In addition to this theory course there are criteria to be met before sitting the RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Ocean examination but, once this is passed, you are considered to be a “Global Sailor” sufficiently qualified to take a yacht anywhere in the world in any conditions.
A pre-course minimum experience level of coastal & offshore sailing is suggested, and it is assumed you have a pre-course experience level of navigation to Coastal Skipper & Yachtmaster Offshore Shore Based standard.
Course Content: Astro-navigation and ocean meteorology. Please see syllabus details on the right.
Course Schedule:
- Classroom: 09:00 Monday – 17:30 Friday.
- Online: 40/50 hours of home study with an online tutor. Course completion should be within 6 months of registration but this is extendable for a small additional fee.
Ability after Course: Background knowledge to skipper a yacht on ocean passages.

- All course materials and loan of navigation equipment.
- Course completion certificate.
- Waterfront classroom
Course Fee – Home Study US$500 to include.
- All course materials delivered to a UK address. Please add US$50 for secure DHL delivery outside UK.
- Online tutor to guide and assist throughout the course.
