What we do

The Windsor estate is constantly active, from maintaining Windsor Great Park as a first class visitor destination to managing commercial forests and hundreds of residential properties.

The Windsor estate covers approximately 6,400 hectares (15,800 acres) and includes Windsor Great Park, the Home Park of Windsor Castle, extensive forests, residential and commercial properties, golf courses, a racecourse and let farms.

Windsor Great Park welcomes almost three million visitors every year, making it one of the country's most visited tourist destinations. Our forestry team runs a major commercial operation. We are responsible for managing, maintaining and conserving an historic Royal Park, and we maintain over 600 residential properties.

The estate stretches from Windsor Castle in the north, to Camberley in the south, a distance of some 16 km (10 m). The majority of the Great Park, and much of the forestry, is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), reflecting the important role the estate has in conserving its natural environment.

Nearly all the estate directly managed, with the commercial letting of properties handled by an external agency.

Community

While the Windsor estate is run along modern commercial lines, aspects of a traditional rural estate still exist. Within Windsor Great Park there is a flourishing community.

Many of the essential workers live in the estate village, which includes a post office and general store, which offers refreshments and cream teas throughout the year. A chapel, school and sports and social club also serve this community.
