Great Lightweight Very Durable Gate

Great lightweight very durable gate. We purchased this gate just about a year ago now. My wife and I were just talking the other day about how much we love it and how useful and durable it is so I figured I'd write this review. When we moved into our home we wanted to section part of it off from our dogs. I always referred to these types of gates as "baby gates" but here we actually bought it to keep our dogs from areas of our home. Now we are blessed with two grandchildren so it does serve a dual purpose. The description says it's a wood gate. The frame of the gate is wood indeed, nice and sturdy yet light in weight. The fence part of the gate is plastic, but no problem there. The gate is very easy to use whether you just need to lean it up against the wall or fit it in between a hallway or door frame. It has two soft rubber bumpers on either side to ensure no damage to your walls. Lift up the handle, select your setting, press the handle down into place to get a nice snug fit between your door jamb. Many times we use it just leaning up but when I step over it I sometimes knock it down. It has not damaged our floors nor has it chipped or broke in any way. The price of this gate is amazing for what you get and it will definitely last us for many years to come. I highly recommend this gate to either partition an area for children or pets.

I have a very large puppy (she will end up being 100 pounds) and this gate doesn't keep her out of other rooms as she quickly learned how to climb it and it isn't that much taller than her, but it does keep her from going up and down our stairs if placed at the bottom of the stairs on top of the stair. It makes it tall enough that she cannot get the leverage to climb over. It is not the most study baby gate out there, but it does the job and it's well worth what I paid for it. She has only pulled it down once and that's because I did not secure it against the wall tight enough.

If I had a toddler or mobile baby who would pull on it, I would be hesitant to use this gate as the grates are flimsy and the two sides are not tightly fitted together. I would likely spend a little extra for a more study, safer gate.

These baby gates are so inexpensive. If we need more, we just hop and amazon and order a couple. These "old school" baby gates work for us just fine. I find the newer versions of baby gates a very expensive. They are relatively easy to use once you learn how. I admit I had to have my husband show me. The are high enough that our toddler can't climb them but also low enough that people can step over them to go from room to room. The wood has never given any of us a splinter if any parents were to be concerned about that possibility! They are lightweight as well. When we travel we grab a few and put them in the trunk of our care and off we go. No hassle.

The reason that I knocked off a star is because the quality is just not the best. Even though they are our "go-to" baby gate, we do sometimes have to replace them because they break. Mostly from our dog jumping over them and our toddler constantly tugging on them. If we put too much pressure on the wood while adjusting the length of the gate, sometimes the wood will start to crack. Overall, the quality is good enough and the price is right. We will continue to purchase these gates.

The gate does its job. It looks and feels like the baby gates that have been around forever. Once it's up, it is sturdy and I have no complaints. But getting it in place... wow.
I bought this for the top of the stairs so that if baby girl gets up and wanders she can't fall down the stairs. Which means I intend to use it primarily while she is sleeping. The clasp is so @$#& difficult that I'm always afraid she'll wake up during my struggle to get it set. The gate itself goes up fine, the bar comes down fine, everything fits well. But the clasp that holds the end of the bar down... it used to be a metal clip-type deal, just popped right down and that was that. Now it's a plastic thing that has to slide in and click in place. But you really have to be holding it EXACTLY in place for it to go on smoothly. It has to be pushed down, but can't go all the way down and you have to hold it EXACTLY there while trying to slide this clasp over the bar. It sounds simple enough but trust- It. Is. Not. It's a pain in the neck, honestly (and the thumb, which I've pinched twice). Bonus, my older kids can't get it to latch at all so I have to re-do it 400 times every evening when the middle kid brings the dog up/down stairs to her room.
Definitely wish I'd sitting for something that closed easier. Releasing it is simple- no issue taking the gate down.

I bought these gates to help with the introduction of a new cat to the household. They are inexpensive but sturdy, lightweight and easy to use. I stacked 4 in my doorway to cover all the way from the floor to the ceiling so the cats could see each other but not fight.

To use the gate you are supposed to measure the width of your doorway and then set the little metal notch on the wooden bar that runs across the middle of the gate to the number of inches that matches the doorway width. I didn't measure my door, I just placed the gates in the doorway and tried adjusting the metal notch until the tension bar pushed down and the gate was firmly in place.

It's not obvious from the instructions but the top bar actually lifts up on the right hand side and disconnects from the bottom bar. This is key to adjusting the gate to fit the door and to removing it. The metal bar does slip out of the correct width notch and needs re-positioning almost every time you reset the gate but it's easy to do.

I'm pleased with this purchase and would buy these again.

This gate might not hold against a focused assault, but it is plenty strong to support a baby trying to stand up. It looks very nice and is easy to set up and take down with one hand. It comes with pads to glue on the wall — these are actually very handy when you need to set up the gate at an angle to the wall. This was a must for us.
