Before David O. Russell became an Oscar darling for directing The Fighter,” “Silver Linings Playbook” or “American Hustle,” he was hired to direct an independent comedy starring Jessica Biel as an uninsured waitress who gets a nail stuck in her head, and Jake Gyllenhaal as a clueless politician who falls for her.

It didn’t go so well. In fact, Russell described it as “a painful process” when he left the long-delayed project in 2010, and no longer claims credit for the movie, originally titled “Nailed.”

‘Marvel’s Agent Carter’ Review: Hayley Atwell Is Mesmerizing on ‘Captain America’ Sequel Series

It has been more than three years since Hayley Atwell blew away audiences with her tough and beautiful portrayal of Agent Peggy Carter in 2009’s “Captain America.” And yet, in a way it feels like no time at all has passed with ABC’s premiere of the “Agent Carter” limited-run series.

In the film, which took place during the height of World War II, Carter was an active agent, kicking butt and defying gender stereotypes. The series picks up the action a few years later in 1946, and those gender stereotypes are back and louder than ever. After the men returned from the war, »

Sting’s ‘The Last Ship’ to Close on Broadway

Broadway show “The Last Ship,” which was composed by rocker Sting, is set to sail away from Broadway later this month.

The musical will batten down its hatches on Jan. 24, despite Sting‘s best efforts to boost ticket sales. In a rare play to grow awareness, the lead singer of The Police actually joined the cast in November as dock foreman. Clearly, the outside-the-box maneuver didn’t move the needle enough to keep the show afloat. Ok, that’s enough boating metaphors for one post — for now.
