Industry & Analysis is led by the Assistant Secretary for Industry & Analysis, Marcus Jadotte
What we do:
Industry & Analysis’ (I&A;) staff of industry, trade and economic analysts devise and implement international trade, investment, and export promotion strategies that strengthen the global competitiveness of U.S. industries. These initiatives unlock export, and investment opportunities for U.S. businesses by combining in-depth quantitative and qualitative analysis with ITA’s industry relationships.
We do this by representing the interests of U.S. industry in trade negotiations, advocating on behalf of industry with foreign governments, publishing research on global opportunities for U.S. industry, and executing export promotion programs. Our efforts ensure that foreign markets are open for U.S. industry, and help guide U.S. businesses toward the best export markets for their products and services. Industry & Analysis also seeks opportunities to enter into strategic public private partnerships with companies and non-profit associations to achieve mutual export and competitiveness objectives.

Manufacturing
Advocates on behalf of domestic industries, and analyzes key factors affecting global markets for
manufactured products to facilitate the export of U.S. goods and promote inward investment Executes comprehensive

for U.S. manufacturers.
Services
Assesses the global environment for service sectors, addresses foreign market trade and investment barriers, and
promotes service export opportunities and inward investment. Executes comprehensive competitiveness strategies that focus
the entire range of policy and promotional tools to strengthen global opportunities for U.S. service providers.
Textiles, Consumer Goods & Materials
Administers and enforces agreements and preference programs while working to ensure a fair trading environment for textile,
apparel, consumer goods, and materials industries to enhance their competitiveness in international markets.
Trade Policy & Analysis
Provides data, analysis, and recommendations on policy and promotion issues affecting U.S. industry
competitiveness in a global setting to maximize U.S. gains in trade negotiations. Addresses investment
and standards-related market access barriers, evaluates the economic effects of regulatory programs,
advances U.S. commercial interests on international intellectual property issues, and coordinates DOC input in
World Trade Organization (WTO) committees and negotiations.
National Travel & Tourism Office
Creates a positive climate for growth in travel and tourism by reducing institutional barriers to tourism, administering joint marketing
efforts, providing official travel and tourism statistics, and coordinating efforts across federal agencies through the Tourism Policy Council.
Advisory Committees
Engages industry in the formulation, and implementation of trade policies and programs through the administration of
advisory committees composed of private sector representatives. These include the President’s Export Council (PEC), Industry
Trade Advisory Center (ITAC), Manufacturing Council (MC), and Travel & Tourism Advisory Board (TTAB).
Trade Agreements Secretariat
Impartially administers the dispute settlement provisions of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), Australia, Bahrain,
Dominican Republic-Central America (CAFTA-DR), Chile, Colombia, Korea, Morocco, Oman, Panama, Peru, and Singapore free trade agreements
with the United States.
Trade Promotion
Supports the entry of U.S. industries into new markets by establishing domestic forums to showcase U.S. goods for
foreign purchasers through the International Buyer Program (IBP), and certifying international forums to connect U.S.
exporters with overseas clients through the Trade Fair Certification Program. In addition, we create opportunities for U.S.
firms to meet on a one-to-one basis with foreign industry executives, and government officials to establish sales channels through the
Trade Missions Program. Our Strategic Partnership Program works in conjunction with private corporations, trade associations and educational
institutions to leverage combined resources to further U.S. exports.
The International Trade Administration, U.S. Department of Commerce, manages this global trade site to provide access to ITA information on promoting trade and investment, strengthening the competitiveness of U.S. industry, and ensuring fair trade and compliance with trade laws and agreements.
