Important: Direct Message IDs will become 64-bit Snowflake IDs on Sep 30

Back in March of 2010, we announced that tweets would soon become 64-bit “Snowflake” IDs. That eventually happened, and now you’ve all grown accustomed to these monstrously large identifiers for tweets. Due to the inability for many Javascript-compliant languages to actually consume these numbers this big, we introduced “id_str” fields in most API responses, and began encouraging developers to favor string-based identifiers instead of integer-based identifiers whenever encountered.Read more…

Teatime - A Developer Tour

Over the past couple of months, we’ve hosted a series of events for developers in the Twitter ecosystem. All of those events have been here at Twitter HQ, and consequently those outside of San Francisco have a tough time attending. An Ecosystem Showcase

We’ve seen some great investments in companies building on Twitter, and we’d like to see even more. It takes good technical integrations with the Twitter API to create awesome applications, and it also takes capital to scale and sustain those applications. Over the past six months, we’ve discussed areas where we see opportunities for developers: Analytics, Curation, Content, Publishing, and Enterprise. Twitter text library and t.co links wrapping update

We’re about to release a new version of the Twitter text processing library we’re using for auto linking and extraction of usernames, lists & hashtags. This change will now extract URLs that have no specified protocols. Read more…

Introducing Twitter Web Analytics

Twitter is a powerful platform for websites to share their content, and drive traffic and engagement. However, people have struggled to accurately measure the amount of traffic Twitter is sending to their websites, in part because web analytics software hasn’t evolved as quickly as online sharing and social signals.

Today we’re announcing Twitter Web Analytics, a tool that helps website owners understand how much traffic they receive from Twitter and the effectiveness of Twitter integrations on their sites. Twitter Web Analytics was driven by the acquisition of BackType, which we announced in July. Read more…
