5.0 out of 5 stars Best Value For Money! Dec 8 2014

I purchased two of these units for my kids - I recently interviewed with a reporter from a major television station for and article on "how to buy a tablet". Most people dont realize that "under the hood" the Fire HD - is running a modified (prettier) version of Android. Some are scared away by it because of fear of incompatibility. In my opinion - it is the absolute best bang for your buck - spec wise I dont think you could find a name brand anywhere that compares to it for a better value. The amazon store carried all the Android apps you could dream of (including Roblox, Pocket Minecraft, and whatever else your kids is probably playing). The only downside to this paticular model is storage - but my kids are not putting full length movies or anything like that on their tablets. You also have access to the cloud - so as long as you have wifi you'll never run out of space -and the space you do have is more than enough for your apps, docs, and a ton of photos. The kindle boasts a Quad-Core chip and at this price point - if they break it - I can just buy another.

This is a wonderful little tablet for what it's intended for, to read, get email, a few games and a little web surfing. It is not an iPad or a Nexus 7 so don't get it expecting it to do or have what these others do. I received mine as a gift from a friend in the US. Got it in Citron Color and the 16 GB. I love it for reading it's such a cute size.

My boyfriend bought this for me - it's great for reading books. Love that you can invert the screen (white text black background) and its very easy to turn the brightness down. The cloud feature amazon has is also great, when my partner uses the kindle I can still read the books we've purchased via my laptop or cell phone. Also love that its colour (my parents bought me the first edition kindle last year and it unexpectedly stopped working).

We haven't tried downloading movies or pictures yet but I'm sure that would be a useful feature next time we are travelling. Haven't had any problems with it yet, and satisfied with the charge life.

Update:
The original problem with Amazon OS was that it did not have the Audible app. I have contacted support since and was informed that the Canadian version of Kindle does not have Audible app installed. Installing it was NOT a simple process. It involved first installing "ES File Explorer" and then using a link that the customer support gave me to download the Audible App. Not sure if this problem will be patched in the future, but right now to listen Audible from the Canadian Kindle Fire, you have to contact customer support.

If this problem did not exist in the first place, I would rate this tablet easily a 4 or 5. The speaker is superb for listening to audiobooks. The processor is fast enough for most website. The screen is sharp. The Doc app is surprisingly good. Uploading files to the Fire is very fast and smart. The build quality is very good for a device at this price. Multitasking is easy and I'd say better than iOS.

On the downside I am starting to notice that the battery drains quite quickly when I am not using it. This is not a big deal to me but worth pointing out.

--------

Pros:
6 inch is not bad.
Speaker is pretty clear.
Good build quality and packaging.
Great price.

Cons:
Operating system lackluster compared to iOS and Android.
It is also surprisingly difficult to find audiobooks. No Audible App on Amazon OS???
There is only 1 speaker, not good for movies.

To be a gift and will be rated again at that time. I love the Kindle Fire 7 I have and my nephew has a new 6 so we are all very happy with our purchases and don't expect this gift to be any different.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this new tablet! Dec 16 2014

I bought this for my 8 year old daughter since her Samsung Tablet broke within a year. We both love this Kindle Fire. It's super easy to use and is quick to startup and open programs. It's a little heavier than a Samsung but it doesn't bother us. It also comes with cool cases that are colourful which is very important for an 8 year old. Would definitely recommend this and will probably buy myself one once my ipad calls it quits.

So, after getting this I am asking myself, why did I buy an Ipad? These tablets are perfect for everything I need to do. I bought it for my husband who likes to read a lot. However, he has never touched a computer and I think he will will learn quickly with the easy learn features. Love the fact that you can store in Icloud!!!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not that great. Buy an iPad mini! Dec 29 2014

Cute great sized tablet if you want something small to carry around and play games or watch movies while travelling. Sound is decent and the amazon android app store isn't too too bad but not great. Thats about all the positive I can say about this tablet. The first unit I received arrived damages The back plastic on the enclosure was popping out and wouldn't push back in. Amazon quickly sent a replacement and the second was fine. Now onto user experience of the tablet. First the user interface is terrible and you cannot install a 3rd party launcher. The os is very sluggish and takes too long to open and load simple apps. The design is very poor and not impressive at all. Cheap flimsy plastic. I didn't expect much for the price but I am definitely returning this and putting the extra money towards an iPad mini. Thanks for trying amazon but its fail for me.
