To my amazement, here we are in mid-2008 and my little book on mashups continues to sell and get good feedback.

In the past 12 months I have received a good amount of emails from readers, mostly with questions but almost all emailers tend to include a brief word or two on how much they've enjoyed the book.  As my first effort into the world of writing this is great to hear.

Within that feedback I've heard a few consistent messages:
a) This book does a good job of laying out the solution from a 50,000 foot level. It seems this is missing from most tech books (something I was conscious of when writing).
b) This book then does a similarly decent job of describing the details.
c) Lastly, and this is probably why it's still selling; this book not only provides specific examples but more importantly it lays out generic techniques, not tied to any one API that are broadly re-usable across many different use cases. Yes the book highlights Amazon (and Google, eBay, etc.) but since it has a technique focus rather than an API focus the book seems to have a bit more longevity.

So I just wanted to thank all those that have read the book and reached out to me. It's been a very rewarding experience for me personally and I hope folks continue to find this book relevant for many years to come.

Understanding Windows CardSpace: An Introduction t&hellip by Vittorio Bertocci

The Foreword is by Identity luminary Kim Cameron and if I'm keeping it real, rather than describe the book's contents, I wish he'd shared more thoughts around the problem space, the approach to the solution and the roadmap BEYOND cardspace.

The book itself is an easy read. Not a tome by an means. Easy to pickup as a reference or to sit with and read chapter by chapter.

It succeeds at describing Identity Federation from a conceptual level as well as from a technical level (as it pertains to Cardspace). It even addresses some of the less obvious issues such as the notion of auditing and non-auditing IdPs.

Be warned, this book focuses on Cardspace fairly… Read more
5.0 out of 5 stars Great product, September 6, 2005
Just got these, bought on semi-impulse, paid $200 from Bloomingdales on Labor Day. Then I did the research only to find out the "international" version of Henckels is the value brand (the "Twin" series is the premium, features two little dudes on the knife).

Couldn't figure it out as there are similarly priced Twin series with MORE knives in those sets (e.g. the 18pc Twin block set) so how could these be inferior? Some more research reveals those "Twin" sets are STAMPED!

These are made in Spain and are fully FORGED, even the steak knives. This means they're beaten from a piece of steel, making that steel denser and hence will hold the edge longer than a piece of… Read more
Sony HMD-A440 FD Trinitron 19" CRT Monitor by Sony
2 of 12 people found the following review helpful:
Researched a number of 19inch monitors, NEC, ViewSonic, Samsung. Finally picked this one up yesterday from ... I bought it becuase of the high refresh rates at higher resolutions. I coupled it with a PnY Verto 4200 GeForce 4 card which is awesome.

I'll be returning the monitor later today. Here's why:

The monitor makes an audible "Clunk" noise when powered on. This is the automatic Degauss on power up. Something Sony don't mention ANYWHERE. This also happens with their 27" TVs which I also have. (By the way, the Sony TV I have blew up after 100days of use, just after the warranty expired).

There are a number of geometry issues out of the box:
1. the picture is skewed to the left… Read more
