5.0 out of 5 stars "Reaper" - Aesthetically Beautiful and Innovatively RPG September 17, 2013
Verified Purchase
Making games for the mobile gaming community is no easy task. Many games seem to litter the marketplace, but usually they lack certain elements that one would commonly find in a retail game: good soundtrack, longevity, and innovative graphics. Will that bridge between retail and mobile games ever reach a satisfying alliance? Mastering elements such as these is difficult when you're limited to a mobile platform, and an added difficulty becomes touch controls. Hexage has made bounds in their shooter "Radiant" and their tower-defense game "Radiant Defense" to meld creativity, innovation, and aesthetics, but these games only scratched the surface on what potential lay dormant: revealed in their new sidescroller RPG game "Reaper".

The first aspect that should be noted about "Reaper" is that it's a free download: at first. They allow all players to at least try the first 10 levels to see if they're interesting at buying the full game, and even at that it's relatively cheap at $2.99 if you should choose. The ability to test the game for free before you buy it is a great way to get players drawn in if the game's style suits theirs, and if not it's no detriment or loss to you. There's no regular and HD version either: just this one version which is a great move on Hexage's part from their previous releases on the Amazon Appstore. They offer two other, more exclusive packages also: Destiny Edition and Dark Legend Edition ($3.99 and $4.99 respectively). These packages unlock new armor sets, level up options through the Fortune Teller, and an arena mode which extends gameplay further.

In the dark fantasy world in which this game is set, you play as the Pale Swordsman: picking sides between the Wilderings and the Imperials as you progress in the story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and ad free November 23, 2013
Verified Purchase
This game is free until a certain point, some people said level ten, but I was at six. It was about an hour of gameplay,- plenty to decide if you want to purchase or not. The controls on the kindle fire are a little frustrating. It took longer than usual to become adept.
And praise the maker; no ads. Not even a "RATE PLZ!" popup, which, ironically, I why I'm rating it.

5.0 out of 5 stars immersive September 20, 2013

I am blown away by this game because there isn't any RPG on the kindle like this one. Excellent story and leveling up system. If you want a tank swordsman pick all of the left skills. If you want a berserker swordsman pick the middle skills. If you want a ninja swordsman pick the right skills. There are endless hybrid builds as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars great November 24, 2013

This game is beautiful, innovative, funny, and enjoyable. So far the game has presented no problems to me except that there is no friendly fire for enemies. If a missile is launched or a boar charges towards you at blinding speeds it should hurt everything, not exclusively you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Casual Game I've EVER Played October 15, 2013

Graphics: 10

Sound: 8

Gameplay: 10

Replay: 10

A beautiful game in every respect. This is not your typical mobile time-killer. Elements of a brawler, platformer, and rpg all rolled into this simple but action packed little gem. After 10 levels you have to buy the full game to increase in levels any more. Do it.

You start off as a mysterious little swordsman in the midst of a strange war. As you fight for both sides for your own monetary gain you increase in levels based on an undiscovered (by me at least) experience system. Each increase in level gives you the opportunity to choose one out of three "skills," uwhich will help you in battle by increasing your abilities in one way or another. Each battle usually has a variety of enemies to defeat; each with their own manners of defending themselves and personality, due to unique visual styles and sound effects. Before and after each encounter there is a small narrative with selectable (albeit simple. The "Pale Swordsman" is a man of few words) dialogue options. The story is well-written with plenty of wit and a little mystery and helps to provide some depth to each battle. The skirmishes are usually short and begin easy but eventually become more complex and challenging enough as you progress in levels. Fighting controls are simple and very effective with the swordsman automatically hacking and slashing when in range. You tell him where to go, when to jump, and which of your three devastating special attacks to unleash. You must be judicious with these, though, because they are executed at the cost of one of your "reaper skulls" which you accumulate by hacking away at foes with his auto-attack.

5.0 out of 5 stars Remarkable. October 14, 2013

This game is simple to play while being complex and interesting. If you're a fan of fantasy adventure with elements of levelling up, choosing new skills, and acquiring cool gear then you'll probably find lasting enjoyment in this game.

I'm the sort that gets bored with most games very quickly, but i had a hard time putting this one down.

Personally, I think playing the first 10 levels for free with a game of this quality is pretty generous. I quickly bought the full version and am still enjoying it. There are no micro transactions in this game. You pay once and enjoy full content.
