The League to End After Season 7

The League is disbanding. Fxx has renewed the fantasy football comedy series for a seventh and final season. The League originally debuted on FX back in 2009 and moved to Fxx for its fifth season in 2013. The series stars Mark Duplass, Stephen Rannazzisi, Nick Kroll, Paul Scheer, Jon Lajoie and Katie Asleton as a group of friends who will do pretty much anything to win their fantasy football league. And of course, in the style of The League, presidents of original original programming for FX Networks, Nick Grad and Eric Schrier, along with Jeff Schaffer and Jackie Marcu Schaffer, the husband and wife, executive producer duo behind The League, revealed the news about that final season in a very goofy, funny way. “Our gang can burn a beach house like Calvin Johnson on a secondary but I shudder to think what they’ll do in the final battle for the Shiva, »

Syfy’s Continuum Renewed for a Fourth and Final Season

It’s a good news/bad news situation for fans of Syfy’s Continuum. The network announced late yesterday that the series had been renewed for a fourth season, meaning that fans would get a proper ending to the show. However, it also revealed that Continuum‘s fourth season would be its last, and that it would only consist of six episodes. Continuum, which comes from executive producer Simon Barry and stars Rachel Nichols as  Kiera Cameron, a cop from 2077 who is transported to the present day and tires to thwart a terrorist organization as she finds her way back to the future, is a Canadian series that first premiered on Showcase in Canada in 2012. Syfy picked up the show in 2013. “Continuum‘s award-winning success on Showcase is a testament to the quality of our Canadian original productions,” Christine Shipton, Senior Vice President of Content at Shaw Media, wrote in a statement. »

Playing House Renewed For Season 2

Playing House fans, USA Network has finally given you us an answer on the fate of the series, and it’s a good one. According to The Wall Street Journal, USA has decided to renew the comedy, created by and starring Jessica St. Clair and Lennon Parham for a second season. “We are over the moon to be back in action for another season of Playing House on USA! We owe a huge thanks to the network and Universal Cable Productions for their support and we are excited about our new opportunities with on-demand,” St. Clair and Parham said in a joint statement. “But we wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for our die-hard fans and their overwhelming love for our show. Every tweet, article, drawing, Facebook post made this next season a reality (especially the pics of tiny hedgehogs and babies dressed up as Bosephus!) The ladies are back! »

Not Sure How To Feel About Syfy’s ‘Krypton’ Superman Prequel? You’re Not Alone

A few weeks ago, I wondered out loud how Superman might return to TV after ten years of Smallville and recently only big screen adventures. My idea was something rather unorthodox, that rather than returning for his own show, Clark Kent should become a recurring fixture in the CW/CBS DC universe across Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl. Maybe eventually getting his own show in the future, if his character was developed well enough. While I haven’t been proven wrong by this latest bit of news, it’s becoming clear that DC is doing everything in their power to bring Superman back to TV, without really bringing him back to TV. Outside of the upcoming CBS Supergirl show, we now also have “Krypton” from Syfy. It’s exactly what it sounds like. “Years before the Superman legend we know, the House of El was shamed and ostracized. This series follows The Man of… »

Selfie and Four Other Cancelled Shows We’ll Miss in 2015

With 2015 on the horizon, we’re all starting to look back at our favorite shows of the year – and beginning to look forward as well, with news of spring air dates for mid-season pilots and premieres starting to leak out to the press. With that in mind, we took time to memorialize what we lost in 2014 with a list of shows cut down too soon – here are five cancelled series we’ll miss in 2015: Selfie I share my love of Selfie every week, so anything I could say about ABC’s highly misunderstood, horribly named comedy about identity, I’ve already said before. Terrific lead performances, an intriguing exploration of human connection in the internet age – and most of all, a show that knew how to be funny without throwing its characters under the bus, traits too often ignored on other high-profile freshman comedies. Unfortunately, we’ll never see what happens to… »

DC Comics’ Next TV Show is Krypton on SyFy

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s a Superman prequel on the SyFy Network! Last night, SyFy and DC Comics announced that the next DC television show is another Superman prequel titled Krypton, the story before the home planet of the Man of Steel met its terrible demise. The project is being handled by Constantine’s David S. Goyer as well as Once Upon a Time’s Ian Goldberg that will tell the story of Kal-El’s grandfather and how his influence would come to affect Krypton as a whole in later years. With the big comic book passion that I have for both the books, TV shows and movies, I have to say that this is definitely an odd turn by DC TV ever since iZombie (a mid-season show on The CW coming in 2015). This definitely seems to be a project that is coming off from the solid success of the… »

The Best Guest Stars on The Middle

It is hard to believe that The Middle has been on the air for six seasons. I will admit, I dismissed the comedy starring Patricia Heaton and Neil Flynn early on in its run. It was not until I started to DVR the show which followed the series, that I began to see the closing of the show every week. I decided to give the series a shot and I am glad I did. Not only is the casts’ comedic timing impeccable, the series of guest stars that have popped up over the last six years are just as awesome. Here is a look at some of our favorite actors to appear on The Middle since its 2009 premiere. Maybe your favorite guest star made our TV Overmind list. Brooke Shields as Rita Glossner The Heck’s have always talked about their horrible neighbors the Glossners, and when the series first… »

Arrow’s Roy Harper Problem

Much has been said about The Laurel Problem on Arrow through the show’s two-plus seasons; since  the pilot, she’s been a mess of melodramatic, one-noted (and mostly unnecessary) story lines – until this season. One of season three’s most important secondary narratives is her from Laurel, the whiny prosecutor to The (New) Black Canary – a necessary redemptive arc for the character, both for Laurel’s on-screen relationships, and that with the audience. However, lost in the midst of Sara’s murder, Barry’s return, the League of Assassins, and whatever the heck is going on in Hong Kong, Arrow‘s failed to deliver on its most promising story of season three: Oliver Queen assuming the role of Slade Wilson, becoming mentor to a tormented boy just like Slade did back on the island. For the first time since him and Thea broke up, it appeared that Arrow had »

This Week in Television Episode 5: Sons of Anarchy’s Death-Filled Episode & Flash vs. Arrow Crossover

And we are back! Hey there, everybody. After taking a week off for the Thanksgiving holiday, my colleague and friend, Blaise Hopkins, and I have awakened from our food comas, begun our Christmas shopping, and returned for an all-new episode of “This Week in Television.” In our latest episode, Blaise and I decided to forego discussing the biggest television headlines of the week (if you want to find out more about them, check out TVOvermind’s weekly feature, “The Week in Television”) and instead dedicate the entire video to reviewing last week’s death-filled penultimate episode of Sons of Anarchy and the two-night, two-part crossover event between The Flash and Arrow (which some people called “Flash vs. Arrow,” while others deemed it “Flarrow”) before diving into our bests and worsts of the week  (which may or may not include quick discussions of South Park, Selfie, and New Girl). Stories We’d Like to See in Cougar Town’s Final Season

On January 6th, Cougar Town‘s long journey network to cable comes to an end with the show’s sixth and final season. With Greyson and Jules happily married, Laurie and Travis probably on their way to being married, and Andy solidifying his position as mayor, it may not seem there are a lot of stories left for Cougar Town to tell. However, there’s still potential for Cougar Town to make a final season comeback – here are some stories they could tap into to reach that potential. Parallels between Laurie’s pregnancy and Jules’ While the situations are very different – Laurie is a successful, mostly mature adult, where Jules was barely legal and dating a philandering golfer when she got pregnant with Travis. However, the journey to motherhood is one Jules has gone through, and something Laurie is clearly going to struggle with; not only does it give the season an emotional component, »

New Girls Season 4 Trailer: Is Something Happening Between Adam and Jessa?

Another trailer for Girls Season 4 has come out, and to be quite honest, even though it does feature a great deal of new footage, it doesn’t look like too much is different. Marnie is still having problems with Desi (which is what happens when the guy you’re into has a girlfriend), Shoshana is still confused about what she do with her post-college life, and Hannah is still Hannah. More interesting are the character pairings that we get shown in the video. It looks like Girls Season 4 will feature more Elijah with Hannah, which is never a bad thing, and will also see Shoshanna and Ray possibly making a second attempt at being together. “You like totally picked the best one of my friends to bone, because I don’t even really like Marnie,” Shoshanna tells him, offering some hope to Ray/Shosh fans out there. (Side note: am I the… »

How Will Supergirl Make It To TV When Wonder Woman Got Canned?

8 December 2014 8:01 AM, PST

We’re at the stage in the pre-lifecycle of CBS’s Supergirl where we’re now starting to hear official rumors about casting. The only name brought up for consideration right now is Claire Holt, who cut her teeth in The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. The CW (owned by CBS) loves to pull from their own roster, so I expect Holt to be seriously considered at the very least. I still am not quite sure why Supergirl will be a CBS show rather than The CW. Perhaps The CW just has too many hits in its various slots right now, and it didn’t want to be overloaded with superhero shows. Or maybe CBS sees that Fox and ABC both have superhero shows (and NBC is bringing Heroes back) and they don’t want to be left out of the fun. My question? Why Supergirl and not Wonder Woman? »

Well, The Newsroom Really Stepped In It Now

8 December 2014 7:53 AM, PST

With only one more episode to go, it seems The Newsroom is unable to go gently into the good night without causing at least one more serious uproar. The show has always done its best to ruffle the feathers of various political parties or ideological groups, but now it’s become downright prophetic. That’s courtesy of a pair of plotlines in last night’s penultimate episode that are ripped straight from the headlines, even though Aaron Sorkin wrote and filmed all these episodes months ago. First, there’s the concept of Acn being dismantled by a new-media jerk in pursuit of “citizen journalism,” played by Bj Novak, just as a Facebook co-founder is being walked out on by the staff of The New Republic as he tries to make similar changes over there in real life. Then there’s Don talking with a girl who was the victim of rape on campus, »

The Leftovers to Make Major Season 2 Cast Changes

8 December 2014 7:36 AM, PST

It appears that more characters will be disappearing from HBO’s The Leftovers but not because of a second Departure. After the events of the show’s first season, which essentially exhausted all the material provided by author Tom Perrotta’s novel, the series will be leaving the fictional town of Marpleton, NY behind and heading to a different location for Season 2, and with that move will come some other changes as well, including who we will and will not see next season. According to Deadline, which first reported the casting news, series regular Justin Theroux, Amy Brenneman, Chris Zylka, Margaret Qualley, Christopher Eccleston and Carrie Coon will all reportedly return for Season 2 of The Leftovers. Additionally, Ann Dowd and Liv Tyler may also return as members of the show’s principal cast, although that still remains to be determined. Meanwhile, other Season 1 regulars, such as  Michael Gaston, Annie Q., »

Star Wars’ Mark Hamill to Reprise His Role As The Trickster on The Flash

8 December 2014 7:00 AM, PST

Star Wars fans won’t have to wait until The Force Awakens to get their first glimpse of Mark Hamill back in action. All they will have to do is tune into The CW and watch one of the best new shows currently airing on TV: The Flash. That’s right, everyone: Mark Hamill is coming to The Flash, and according to HitFix’s Alan Sepinwall, who first broke the casting news, he’ll be playing a role fans of the original CBS series will know him for: The Trickster. During the original 90’s series, Hamill portrayed the villain as an over-the-top, Joker-like psychopath. However, on The CW’s The Flash, the actor will be playing the show’s own version of The Trickster. Here’s the full description for the character: “Mark Hamill returns in a brand new interpretation of James Jesse (aka The Trickster), a role he originated on the 90’s ‘Flash’ series. »

How Girl Meets World’s Holiday Episode Captured the Spirit of Boy Meets World

8 December 2014 6:17 AM, PST

As I’ve stated many times before on this site (and will, I’m sure, continue to do so in future articles), Boy Meets World is one of my all-time favorite shows. The 90’s sitcom, which originally aired on ABC and helped anchor the network’s Tgif block for years, was the perfect combination of over-the-top, wacky comedy and unflinchingly honest emotions. So when it was announced that Boy Meets World was getting its own spin-off, a Disney Channel series called Girl Meets World, which was to focus on Cory and Topanga’s daughter Riley, I was both excited and hesitant; I wanted to see my favorite characters again but didn’t want it to tarnish the legacy of the original series. When I finished watching the pilot for Girl Meets World, I wasn’t very impressed, and in the times I’ve continued to check in on the series since then, »

Did the Right Character Die in the Revenge Midseason Finale?

8 December 2014 6:10 AM, PST

The following contains major spoilers from last night’s midseason finale of Revenge… All week long, Revenge has been promising that its midseason finale (the show will return with new episodes on Jan. 4) would deliver the death of a major character. Despite all the hype that the show was giving the episode, I was till worried that the death wouldn’t really deliver, that it would simply be someone like Louise or the dirty FBI agent that Jack was now sleeping with. Well, it turns out that the latter of those two (who ended up being Malcolm Black’s daughter no less) did end up biting the dust as well, but it wasn’t before she shot Daniel, who threw himself in front of Emily to protect her. That’s right, Revenge fans: Daniel Grayson is dead, something that was very predictable from the first flashback we saw between him and Conrad but still, »
